In your mind what would be the quintessential model for the 1980's?

Been feeling very 80's nostalgic lately and I was just wondering what people think the Smith revolver that ruled the 80's might be.

I'm thinking a model 64, but would like to hear what everyone else has to say. Maybe a 686?

I'll vote for the 586/686. When the 586 came out S&W bought a lot of advertising in the gun mags and created a lot of demand for the gun. For a long time after if you could find one the price was list plus. Supply and demand. I wanted one but couldn't afford it at the time. I've made up for that shortcoming since.

I would have said the Model 29 despite my dislike for the caliber. "Dirty Harry" was a 1971 movie but I think the glow he put on the Model 29 lasted a long time.

I bought my snubby 686+ in the 1990s so for me personally the 80s were only a Model 19, Model 10, and Model 36.

Times have changed since then................

My vote goes to the 24-3/624s since they were introduced in 84 and in limited runs. Of course they have expanded the lines since but... For a close second I'd have to go with the 29/629s even though the factory didn't really get them right til the mid 90s.

The QUINTESSENTIAL 1980s S&W gun would be the quintessential version of the 686, the CS-1 made for the Customs Service:

although I am partial to the 681 as a personal favorite:
