Hello again,

In my last post I was asking about fitting a barrel bushing for a 5906 with a strange story behind it. TLDR: it had its barrel replaced with a microphone by a detective before being sold to a shop I work at. (I call BS like everyone else in that thread but who knows)

Well, I got a barrel bushing from numerich but it's completely wrong. Not even in the ballpark. Looking at the schematics it's correct I think, but there are no reference photos online for me to get any idea of what is up.

So, I need some help. I can't find anywhere else selling them or even what it's supposed to look like. Thanks in advance for whatever you can point me towards.

That bushing you have there looks ok.
Does the barrel muzzle fit that bushing properly?
It almost looks like the muzzle end of that slide has been bored out oversize.
Do you have any precision measuring tools?
Is that a 5906 or is it a 5906TSW? They don't take the same bushing.
Perhaps take some precise measurements of the slide inside diameter then call Numrich and see if they have what you need.

Anyway, assuming the hole in the front of the slide is still perfectly round, it's a pretty simple part to fabricate, maybe 20 minutes or so in front of the lathe to make one from a piece of hardened 416 stainless.

Cheers

I have calipers and measured the following:

Bushing OD: 15.95mm
Bushing ID: 13.40
Barrel: 13.45
Slide: 17.80

Note the large gap at the top of the first photo, the bushing does not fit. That's corroborated by the 1.85mm difference. I could almost slip the entire lip through the slide. The barrel also doesn't fit through but barely (.05mm difference). It's a regular 5906 not a TSW.

I do have a guy who could machine this bushing but I am worried about the muzzle being bored out for whatever reason. There's a 4.35mm difference between the slide and barrel which seems really big. Can anyone measure theirs to get a rough idea?

I think the bushing is correct, but the slide has been reamed to a much larger diameter. If that's the case, the slide is a paperweight.

If I was to make a new one my only concern is that the muzzle doesn’t go through the one I have now. Would I want to upsize the ID a little so that’s possible? This is where I’d love some measurements off of other people’s 5906s.

I have a well used (police) 5906 with two compatible slide assemblies.

The interior of each of the bushings measures .532"-.533".

On each of the barrels I have, the collar at the muzzle of the barrel that interfaces with the interior of the bushing measures .530".

On my 5906...

Bushing ID 0.533
Barrel OD 0.531

Interference fit barrel to bushing NO...the barrel must be a thousandth or two smaller than the busing ID to allow free movement and reliable function.

Interference fit bushing-slide YES...the bushing is oversize and must be pressed into the slide in order to stay put during firing.

The ID of the slide muzzle where the bushing is housed should be just shy of 5/8" or around 0.625" less 1 or 2 thousandths.

I suggest measuring that bore on your slide across north-south and again across east-west. That should tell you is it's been modified and also if it's still round.

If you find it oversize, I would consider looking for a replacement slide or parts kit. They're not hard to come by.

Cheers
Bill
