Inexpensive .40 found at Wal-Mart

I was at my local WalMart today and they had CCI .40S&W 180 grain FMJ ammo for $12.45/box of 50. I thought it was a pretty good deal and bought a box to try out my new M&P. Definitely not ammo I'd carry for self-defense but for practice I'm sure it works.

They have a lot of it on hand, at least 1000 rounds from what I could see. I bought a box to see how my gun feeds it. If it feeds well I plan to go buy more. If anyone here is looking for some, the WalMart I went to is in Fairfax, VA at the Fair Lakes shopping plaza.

I'd be willing to bet that "a lot of it they have on hand" turns into empty shelves sporting dust bunnies in short order in the current environment? The semi-auto pistol stuff is desired near equally with the A/R, A/K calibers.

I don't know if it will fly off the shelves....40 isn't nearly as popular as 9 (of which they had none). If this stuff functions well in my pistol I'll definitely be buying a lot more.

I had never used CCI Brass ammo until I purchased some of the .40 S&W at the local WalMart (Simi Valley) several weeks ago. It performed fine, well worth the $12.47 price. I even bought some more recently when they got resupplied.

Actually, the ammo counterman at the WalMart told me that the only stuff they are getting in regularly from their warehouse is the CCI Brass .40 S&W. The Winchester white box is, according to him, really in short supply. FWIW

I've never had any problems with the blazer
brass so far.
I've been using it and the Win white box, and
I don't really notice much difference.
Actually, I would have no problems at all using
FMJ for defense if that's what was in the gun
at the time. Just make sure nothing is behind
the BG in case it goes all the way through em.

FMJ may not act like the fancy hollow points,
but it's still pretty lethal. A .40 at 180
grains is going to be some serious hurt even if
it doesn't expand.
I think I actually prefer FMJ for animal
protection, cuz it penetrates well.

I buy 95% of my ammo at Wal-mart. The prices are too good and the store is too close to the house.
