I recently purchased some parts for a model 41that includes a barrel, box, clip and these counterweights. I'm not familiar how the counterweights were used and the approximate price they would sell for. Any information is appreciated. I'm going to try to include pictures if I can download them. Thanks

The barrel weights are intended only for the 7" (and, I think, the older 7-3/8") barrels only. The largest weight slides on from the muzzle end and is fixed in position using the set screws. The marks on the top of the topmost weight in your third picture can be used with a small witness mark on the barrel to fine-tune the position. The other two weights can be moved around and/or removed to change the total weight and balance. I have a set for my 41 but rarely use them as they make for a very heavy gun that I have trouble holding toward the end of a long match.

I see sets in nice condition with the box, as yours are, in the $500 neighborhood, possibly a bit more.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. It was very informative.

weights

This set of weights you have are the first type mfg. by smith & wesson.
You can tell that from the 4 holes in the bottom. Later sets had only 2 holes to access the screws. This was to reduce cost. They also fit the model 46.
The problem many encountered is that they did not realize the weight had to be fitted to the barrel, so it would slide on and off without damaging the finish on the barrel. There is a very small slot for the weights to slip on.
Instead many were forced on, and damaged the finish to the metal.
Your box is near mint condition, and the weights look to be as well.
You would be wise to hold onto them, as someone who will really appreciate what you have will pay you a proper price for them. I have seen them just north of $600.00.

Thanks for that info. I may have them listed too cheap.
