I just had an interesting call with an S&W customer service. I asked if I could order a striker to have one hand should mine break. He said that was a restricted part and they can't send one, nor have they ever sent them out.
I've read multiple postings about S&W sending these to people. He also said it was totally fine to dry fire my 9c, and that snap caps wouldn't make a difference.

Opinions on this conversation?

Also, is this the replacement for what might break under dry fire:
Striker Assembly S&W M&P M&P Compact 9mm Luger 357 Sig 40 S&W SS

Your strikers assembly would no more break during dry fire than it would under live fire

I have an M&P that had the earlier striker that would break. Apparently there is a plastic piece that snaps off, the new striker is metal. When I called S&W I mentioned this and that I knew they came out with a new striker. The CS rep sent it no charge. What I have noticed with CS is that some reps appear annoyed just by answering the phone while others are outstanding to deal with.

Mine was test-fired in February, so I guess it's the newer model with the improved striker. Would snap caps help, or are they a waste of money?

Weird response from S&W but I think the part is $8 from SSS. I know I have a spare in my bag purchased from them. Wouldn't be if it cost $30.

SSS? The midway link in my first post has the assembly for 30+$. What's SSS?

You need to do a little more research before making a post like that. Many M&P strikers have broken in the past by dry firing and very few if any during live fire.It seems as though S&W has the problem taken care of now.But I still have an extra striker on hand.

Where did you get the extra striker?

Would the 9c have the same striker assembly as the full sized 9? That's all I could find on SSS.

I got mine from Speed Shooters Specialties.I eventually had to send my pistol back to Smith after several strikers breaking. They replaced the Slide and striker.I have had no more problem since being fixed.I have dry fired it a lot just to be sure it is ok.I also have since fired hundreds of rounds through it during IDPA competition and practice with no problems.I also think Brownells has strikers.
