We are going to the Phoenix area for spring training. We have never been there so we need some advice. Any info about gun shops, restaurants, tourist attractions, and anything ya'll think we shouldn't miss will be appreciated. On our way home we are going through Bisbee, and I hear that is an interesting place also. Thanks

You could keep an eye out for the S&W, 4", model 629, .44 magnum that I mailed to a member there and it was stolen from the mail  ! But, its probably in Mexico by now!

Phoenix is a metropolitan area spanning across hundreds of square miles, home to about 5 million people, so it would help if you could be more specific about where you'll be staying, any particular special interests, etc. I'm sure many of us here would be happy to steer you toward the highlights. If you're headed from Phoenix to Bisbee, I highly recommend paying a visit, enroute, to Karchner Caverns State Park for one or another of the literally awesome cave tours, and also stopping in at Tombstone, where the Allen Street tourist kitsch is entertaining, and the nearby Territorial Courthouse, now a State Park, is authentic and historically interesting, and where the Longhorn is the best place to eat. In Bisbee, visit the Copper Queen Hotel, which has a decent restaurant, the Mining Museum, just a few steps down from the Copper Queen, and if time permits, take the underground tour of the Copper Queen mine itself. In any event, take time to peer into the open pit mine just south of downtown, for a minor example of how men and machines can alter the Earth. Near Bisbee, at Douglas, the Gadsden Hotel is an marvelous example of architectural extravagance, and also home to a surprisingly good restaurant. Have fun, enjoy your visit, but please go back home --- Arizona remains closed to any further legal immigration...

Gun shops
Overcrowded, over priced, and under stocked.
You might want to check out Scottsdale Gun club though, they have machinegun rentals.
Also could go see the Dillon Precision folks.

Restauraunts
Scottsdale has some high end places to eat and party in.
Really though it's just like any other big city.

Tourist Attractions
The Heard Museum of Art is cool.
Scottsdale for shopping and art.
Mill Street, sort of a booze and food type place for the younger crowd, located right by ASU.
Most real sight seeing is up North in the Sedona/Prescott/Flagstaff area.

You get down to Florence, and I'll take you out to the desert and Box Canyon for a day trip, might even let you play with some class 3 goodness.

I'm sure Paladin85020 will be along in a bit to set you (and me) straight for the Phoenix and Bisbee scoop (he loves Bisbee).

We will be staying in the Surprise area. We have tickets to see the Rangers and also the Cubs in Mesa. We planned on going to see what Dillon has to offer. Thanks jkc, the caves, courthouse and the Copper Queen sound interesting. We're looking forward to Bisbee. BTY we like residing in Texas so you are safe.
Gunslinger thanks for the restaurant info and also thanks for the offer to the Box Canyon. Maybe next time.

From Surprise east to Mesa, you can stop in downtown Glendale, a Mecca of antique shops and unique restaurants. Within a few short miles there are two gun shops, Randalls and Lone Wolf that even with the current drought are a great gun-related visit (you can search the web for directions). Downtown Phoenix has several museums and places of interests and has been mentioned already, it's a BIG area! I second Tombstone, Bisbee and the Gadsden Hotel in Douglas, way too much to list on that list. Be safe and enjoy your stay!

Glendale, Tombstone and Douglas sound good also. Thanks Blackcloud2

PING has its operations there if you are interested in a custom fit in golf equipment-----That would be fun, to me.
Blessings

I tried golf many years ago. It didn't take me long to realize it was not for me. I'll stay off the golf course and out of the way of the people who can hit the ball and then find the ball. I spent most of my time trying to find the ball.

I don't golf either, but the newly refurbished Ping building is right across the street from my office! If you don't golf, except for a couple of pawn shops that sometimes have good gun buys and a hard-to-miss topless joint in the immediate area, I'd not make the stop! :)

There is a nice gun shop in Surprise just off one of the main drags. Was there for Spring Training two years ago, they had a lot of stuff then.
