Hi guys and gals, looking for info. on a Victory I have a chance to buy, looking for date of manufacture and value serial # is V462504 has a 4" barrel, letter P stamped on left side between cylinder and hammer, above cylinder on left side there's a bomb symbol U.S. Property then the letters G.H.D. Unfortunately I don't have pictures at this time but finish is 80%, lanyard loop is missing and the grips aren't original. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the S&W Forum, Pandorabull.

The Victory Model you found is from 1943, probably late that year. It was a U.S. issue gun, probably for the Navy.

The P is a proof mark, the property stamp is correct for the era and GHD are the initials of the senior military officer over the Springfield district procurement office. His name was Guy H. Drewry.

The swivel can easily be replaced and correct stocks are easy to find.

I'll leave pricing to those who collect these revolvers. But I hope the rest of this information will be useful to you.

Manufactured late 1943, standard military-shipped US variant of the Victory.

If you are not deeply familiar with Victorys, it's not possible to judge your verbal estimate on the finish (no offense intended :)). We'd need pictures.

But without original stocks and swivel, somewhere in the 300s at most.

To be fair about my own thread which is referenced above, I was aware even at the time that I was paying a high price. I prefer to buy local. The only ones I had seen and could inspect were in much worse shape, and those I saw online were hard to judge.

I believe there was a set of stocks in the classifieds just recently. On Ebay they sell for $30~50. The second set in the pic below came off Ebay. Pic is after cleaning. Someone else can probably direct you to a source for a swivel.

As for % finish, perhaps Absalom can use other pics as an example, not sure how to judge original finish on these... Oh, and good luck with your potential purchase!

Thank you all for the great information and Absalom absolutely no offense taken you are absolutely correct on my judging of finish.
