Hello and Welcome to the Forum,
Have a look at this thread. The barrel is probably 4" and it's more than likely a K-38 Combat Masterpiece. The serial# dates to about 1953. Post a couple of pic's if you can.

I believe that serial number K208686 puts the gun in the 1953 range. Pictures would be very helpful to determine the specifics. Sounds like it could be a Model 15 K-38...pics would help

Something is not computing here. It may be a Combat Masterpiece, but it won't be a Model 15.

First, welcome to the Forum. I believe you'll find great folks here willing to share their collective knowledge.

Second . . . as others have said . . . you likely have a 4" 38 Combat Masterpiece. It didn't receive the Model 15 designation until 1957-58 timeframe.

The factory didn't ship guns in s/n sequence but, based on known ship dates I have, yours would have shipped in mid-1954. (K206759 shipped April 1954, and K210642 shipped in September 1954). The s/n range in the books was based on the best information available when published. As we learn more from the factory records, we continue to refine what we know.

There's a wealth of information available here on this Forum in earlier threads. Just enter the 1896 to 1961 section, click on "Search this Forum" at the top, and enter "Combat Masterpiece" in the key word(s) block. You'll find several threads listed that provide a ton of information and commentary on what can be argued is one of the all-time great revolvers made by Smith & Wesson.

If possible, share pictures of your example so we can all enjoy.

Ah these technicalities get me everytime. Thank you for correcting me Jack. I tried though! Combat Masterpiece, nevermind those silly model numbers...they came later!
