I going to buy a 65-5 with a 3" shrouded barrel but I would like some specific info on it.

I know S&W made a Lady Smith like that but am unaware of any others in that configuration. (Edit: Turns out it IS a LadySmith) It also has a case hardened hammer and trigger but no lock. I only saw it in the display case so I don't have the serial number.

Any help with specifics would be of help but I'm going to buy it anyway. I love the 3" K frames.

The 65-5 LS should have the hammer on the firing pin and H/T are both flash chromed and adorned with laminated rosewood grips. They came in a burgundy pistol rug. Mine has all the aforementioned. I don’t know of any -5 LS that vary from this:

There was a second model 65-5 that had a shrouded ejector rod. It was just called "Hunter" Here is a thread about it from 2017...

65-5 Hunter Smith 3" **Letter added 9/1/17**

I have a 65-5 LS that was worked over by Mike LaRocca, formerly of Pachmayr Gunworks...

Thanks for the link to that old post. Very interesting. It's making me even more eager to buy that old model 65. Once I do get it I'll try and post a photo.

I went back to the gun store and got to inspect it closely.

It's a Lady Smith and has case hardened trigger and hammer with a nose mounted firing pin, a teardrop cylinder release, plus Houge 'bantam' grips. The finish is OK but its been made shiny in a few spots.

No extras (metal case or velvet bag or papers).

I have a few other 3" K frames (64, 65, and 66) so I don't NEED another. I may WANT another one however. I'm still pondering and may offer less and see what happens.

I've made a counter offer on the price and awaiting a reply.

It does not have the hard case nor the rose wood grips and has a few shiny spots on the bead blasted finished. Considering these issues it would be a shooter and not a collectable.

If the deal goes through I'll post pics if I can figure it out.

Well I got it. $600.00 OTD, gun only, no case or rose wood laminate grips. It does have Hogue Bantam grips. It's very clean but with a few shiny spots on the frosted stainless finish.

I think it's mid to later production with serial number CCB71XX.
It has the earlier 'stud' type cylinder stop on the frame. I've seen photos of some with the newer style stop molded onto the frame.
It has the current style asymmetrical cylinder release vice the traditional style button.
It has a grooved grip frame at least on the back strap (I'm assuming the front is too, but the that is covered by the grips). I've seen photos of some with smooth back and front grip frame straps.
It has a color case hardened trigger and hammer. The earlier ones had flash chromed ones.

I think I'll like this one and since it's used, I'll make it a shooter.
