Happy 4th Of July ! I know this is a Smith and Wesson forum so dont beat me up too bad. I really like the looks of the Sig and have heard good and bad things about it on line. The group here is Honest and I would like to know if anyone here has one and what they think of it? Thanks guys

My hunting buddy bought one two years ago. He chose the Sig over a beautiful 18-4. He does not like the Sig - no, he HATES it. If he doesn't see some improvement in the next few hundred rounds, he'll trade it off. Personally, I think he is expecting too much from it.

About 2 years ago, I was considering purchasing a mosquito. I read about it's plus' and minus' for a couple weeks and then looked at the SIG226-22 Classic.

It is a full size P226 with a .22cal. conversion kit on the full size frame. The price was about $525.00. This is the way I went and am well satisfied with my choice.

I have since upgraded the P226 frame with both 9mm and .40S&W slides and barrels and now have a 3 caliber gun. I have had none of the mechanical problems with the 226 that have been discussed at length for the Mosquito.

Your money your choice. Good luck what ever you choose.

Nephew has one and is a scout/sniper in the Marines, he is a little hard on firearms. He bought one a few years back and I have shot it numerous times. I have never seen it jam or had it jam on me when I was shooting it. It is an accurate gun but not as accurate as my Ruger Mk III Hunter. Again, the fact that he still has it and it still functions is saying something. I wont let him shoot any of my over and unders or side by sides just because of the way he slams them open and shut. Bottom line, I would buy one if I didnt already have the MK III.

3 friends got these things. 2 of the guns had horrible triggers. The third's was non functional and was to returned to the factory.
As for function, when one of these fires a full mag with out jamming I will let you know.
If you want something of this type, get a Walther P22. They work.

They can be real picky on the ammo. Usually you have to buy the more expensive CCI brand or something like that for it to operate properly. Using the bulk 500 round packs may or may not work well, just seems to depend on the specific gun.

I bought one awhile back because it was a Sig. It ain't. The whole lower half is plastic, including the trigger. If you buy one expecting a Sig you'll be disappointed. Joe

The wife didn't much care for the 22/45 I got but liked the feel of the Mozzie. So I got her one. ;)

She loves it. We broke it in with 500 rounds of Mini Mag solids & now run Rem bulk with decent reliability. Federal bulk makes it essentially a single shot.

The trigger, both SA & DA, is absolutely horrendous. She shoots it OK & doesn't care. I cannot hit a barn with it.

Mags are expensive. I scored 4 from Cheaper Than Dirt for $30 each & that is the best I've seen. You need to be certain you are getting genuine SIG metal mags & not cheap plastic knockoffs. From all reports the gun will know the difference.
We run it wet & it gets cleaned after every session.

All in all, it's the wife's gun & she likes it. I prefer the Ruger.

I gotta say I'm a little jealous of the walnut grips she got for Mother's Day. No such option for my Ruger.:(

Very bad trigger and a jam-o-matic. It feels good if all you want to do is hold it.

Sig Misquito

I have one. Shoots every kind of ammo I put in her. Never missed a beat or jams. Shoots a little low but I compensate.
Fobus makes a holster and mag pouch.

But

between the sig and my Browning Buck mark or Ruger 22/45 I would take the Buck Mark. It is very accurate and easy to clean . The Ruger is not easy to re assemble but shoots forever before you Have to clean it.

My 1st choice is my 617

I've had mine for almost a year now. I shoot CCI mini mags in it and haven't had any problems with it. You also need to keep it lubed. There's a hole for oil on the side of the slide. Not tack driving accuracy, but fun to plink with. I bought an extra mag for it [$39.99] But I figured it would be easier to find when they were newer. Fun little gun. Paid $349 and it came with a Sig paddle holster.

I was told same thing by a close friend who actually called over his frustration and disappointment, factory reps said cci is suggested. I would go the

226 route in 22 if you can afford it. ps it was a first run of this gun, maybe they tweeked it

I just sold my Sig Mosquito and three mags for a $100 loss because neither my wife or liked the gun. Great fit and feel in the hand with all the center fire controls, but a horrible trigger. Ours jammed like crazy until we had about 1,000 rounds of Mini-Mags down the pipe, then it settled down and would also run on CCI Blazer bulk. It didn't function well with any other brands of ammo.

If you want a fun .22 and don't like or already have a Ruger MK II or III buy a GSG 1911-22. Good trigger, decent accuracy and it will run on most any high velocity .22 ammo. The mags are pricey, however they are well built and the easiest .22 mags to load I've ever seen. Another plus-the sights are set in Novak dovetails, so replacements are easy to find if you so desire.
