info please on 5906 3.5" two tone

I am looking at this time to purchase a 5906, I came accross one that caught my eye but, I have never seen the features it has on any other 5906.

The features are 3.5" barrel, stainless frame and blued slide, trijicon night sights, spurless hammer, ambidextrous thumb safety, and rough textured grips

does anybody out there have info on this

See if it is rollmarked "SSV" to the right of the 5906 model number. If it is, it is one of the 5906 Short Slide Variants. These were made up from 5906 frames with 6904 slides. Nice carry gun.

If there is no "SSV" it is probably a cobbed up "homemade" version. Some folks, like me , got tired of looking for a 5906 SSV and made our own.

I certainly may be wrong here, but I was thinking that S&W only made a 5903 SSV and a 5943 SSV. So if it is a 5906 it may be a homemade version, which I call the SSSV (as in simulated short slide variation). I did the same thing myself with a 5943.

There were the Lew Horton 5967 specials also that had a stainless 5900 frame with the 6904 slide with night sights. And yes the SSVs' were 5903 and 5943 alloy frames, 1,500 and 3,200 manufactured.

So, if I took my 6906 slide and barrel and put it on my 5906 frame, I'd have a hi(gher) capacity short(er) barreled 3G semi?

Most likey everything wil match up and work. Or you could get the mag adaptors for your 5900 mags and use them in your 6900. Or put the 5906 slide on your 6900 and have a short gripped full length CCW gun. Or....

The truth is that I'll likely leave both as is. I'd carry the 5906 if not for the weight and size. I love the 6906, although I don't carry it all that much.

That's what comes with having too many 3G semis. If there is a such a thing as having too many. I have a lot of options, all using the same form factor and controls.

Ok, I called the seller on the 5906 3.5 and was told he has the original box and gave me the product code of 104008

this code makes no sence because it shows 4" s 14 sh fs am 1989

doesnt match, is this mabe the performance shop? or wrong box. I wish I had the box and gun in my hand so I could confirm the serial number

If the serial number on the box matches the frame on your gun then it probably started out as a 4" gun someone modified. The Book shows the same product code info as you have on the box.
I was always looking for one of the PC versions of that gun, PC5906. good luck

The seller sent me some pictures of the original numbered box, and YES even the label says 4".

You'al were correct it was a 5906 frame with in correct slide.

I passed still on the hunt for a 5906 LNIB. 1st trigger guard

Just joined up a while ago after the pruchase of the 5967 Lew Horton. Only 9 months late, but here is the gun S/N TESXXXX stamped and MOD 5967 what appears as inked under it. With the original "Round" grip.

With the "straight" grip, fits better in my hands.

I made one of these when mating a 5906 slide to a 6906. I took the remaining pieces and made an "SSV" and sold it for more than I cared about. The 5906 slide on 6906 gave me what I think is the best balance in the double stack pistol.
