Welcome to the Forum.

It was probably shipped from the factory in 1948.

Value depends mostly on condition and somewhat on other factors like butt shape and barrel length.

Can you post some pictures?

Value is going to depend on the condition of the gun. New in the box it might be worth up to $500; without the box and with a worn finish but functional action, it is a shooter worth $200-250. Two-inch barrels get a slight value kick because there are not that many and they are in demand. Can you post photos?

The serial number points to postwar production -- probably 1947.

EDITED TO ADD: I see Gil got in while I was still typing. But our answers show we are kind of looking at your question the same way.

it would command a slightly higher price in California as itis over 50 years old and exempt from their safety testing.

anyone try this one, model 10-7. .38 spcl, 4 inch, AEP33xx, great condition, but looking for an idea on the year?

thank you, very much! I realize I should get the letter for future reference, but appreciate the approx information.

The S prefix on the Military & Police Model makes it 1946-48. In 1948 they started the C prefix.

I have S868055, which shipped in January 1947. You can't reliably extrapolate other dates from nearby serial numbers, but your gun probably left the factory in late 1946 or early 1947.
