Hello - I am hoping the members here can help me gather some information on a revolver I found at my LGS. Condition is good with a nick here and there. All the research I've done makes me believe this may have been a limited production run. It's a 586-3, with a 3" barrel. What do you think the value of this may be?

Thank you for your help.
Here are some pictures

They made some 3-inch 586s, but unlike the 3-inch 686, which became a regular production item, the 3-inch 586 did not become a standard production item. The "Standard Catalog" will give more details.

Not much that I could find in the "SCSW". Product code 103567 Blue 3" TT. Three inch 568s are hard to find.

8288 is October 14, 1988 (I think a Leap Year)

It looks like some sort of limited edition, but info info that I saw. Maybe there is something somewhere else in the book that I didn't find.

What price does the shop have on it?

He's trying to figure a price fair for the seller. The shop is local and took the pistol in on consignment. I'm hoping to nail that down this week. It's a forced sale so we are unable to get information from the prior owner.

Thank you each for your responses so far.

Welcome back to the Forum! You're looking at an interesting revolver, and probably somewhat rare. The Model 586-3 was introduced in 1988, but the triple-alpha s/n for this one (BHP) indicates it was manufactured in 1992. It's interesting that the Spec. Order 8288 indicates 1988 but the s/n indicates 1992. The SCSW 4th Ed. only states that the Product Code (103567) means 3" bbl., blued, TT, and unfluted cylinder, and the box states "Non-Standard" features. I couldn't find anything related to Lew Horton or another distributor's special order. There is no mention of the number of revolvers manufactured in this PC, but I suspect that it's not too many since 586-4 was released in 1993. In today's slightly softer vintage revolver market, I think that this 586-3 with original box, and without its original stocks, would be worth around $1200-$1500...maybe more to the right collector. Hopefully some of our Forum gurus can shed some light on this nice revolver. As others have said, you may need a letter to really know this revolver's pedigree. If you really like this revolver, I hope that the lgs prices it so that you can take it home. Good luck!

I was wondering when someone was going to bring up the grips. Those look like Pachs to me, which, while functional, definitely hurts the value.

I'd say the price would be 1100$ tops, even with the box. If they have the original stocks somewhere not shown in the photos 1300+.

Rare One for Sure

If the price is right, take it. Never heard of a 3 inch 586-3. Rare Gem! Congratulations if you can get it. Good Luck.

The unflutted cylinder would seem to make it even more rare. Is the white box indicative of a performance center gun? Admittedly it’s out of my wheelhouse.

In looking at the box, I seem to recall this was a style used for export guns of the period.

Any update on an asking price?
