Inherited 400 guns.

About 10 years ago my son had a friend whose father committed suicide. He had something close to 170 guns, mainly, but not all, long guns. I gave the son a rough and dirty value for each so he could try to sell them. He had some nice ones, but nothing I was especially interested in, mostly modern rifles and shotguns. I think he turned them over to a gun shop for consignment sale, no idea how it turned out.

Several years ago we had a local tactical kinda gun shop. I'd stop in once in a while looking for anything good. One day the owner sees me and says hey I have something for you! He comes out with a nearly perfect 17-3. I look it over and ask how much, He says (forget now)but it was $250 or $350. I don't ask questions and pay for it.

As we are doing the paperwork the LGS guy says they gun came from Califonia it was willed to a younger grandson nearby. The estate shipped the gun into the LGS. The kid came in took a casual glance at it, and told the shop to sell it ASAP and get the money.

I thought it kinda odd to deal with the estate, shipping, etc to just dump it. Probably meant something to Grandpa but nothing to the kid.

Just think of accounting for them all and keeping them secure.

I ran into something like this several years ago. A young man in his 20s inherited several guns and bunch of gun related items from his Grandfather. He didn't know much about them. Just wanted the stuff gone.
I bought a lot of about 2000 rounds of assorted ammo dirt cheap.
Then he had a bag with about 100 assorted pistol magazines, mostly for European pocket pistols that I got for $75. I and a friend of mine got what we could use out of them and I put the rest on GB as one lot. They sold for $350.
I asked if he had any guns for sale and was told he only had two left. A Luger which he intended to keep and a Walther PP in .32acp. I asked how much for the Walther? He hemmed and hawed for a minute and said maybe $250? I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough!

I won't have a problem with where mine will go. My son's collection will more than double the day I take my dirt nap. I am picking out a few for my grand son for when he's old enough to have them if he shows he's responsible enough to have them.

Up here.........

I have double digit firearms, up here I'm an absolute threat to the peace of all living kanadians. I'm classified a gun nut, all of my handguns have been improved by the members of this board over the years, my saws all have boxes, papers and tools for any inquiries up here if I should expire before mother.
I spent a lot of time redoing the wood and the general look of my longies also, just one quick story, I bought a pre 64 30/30, cheap, it was a scabbard gun and it looked like it, I had it reblued a new baseplate and I refinished the wood with the proper winchester stain and the rifle turned out in my eye as good, I took it back to the seller for him to see it and when I took it out of the case his statement was "holy ****" so i figured the time spent was well worth it.
Another thing is making sure my wife has her long gun and restricted license, as y'all know we need to have a license to buy or sell guns also to buy ammo, these are renewed every five years, but if I should expire first she doesn't have to be held accountable by just being my executor and no timeline is required to get rid of them either.
