If you inherited them they are yours and you can sell like anything else firearm related that you have

If you list what you have and post some pictures, folks here might give you ideas on what to ask for them. You can post them in the "For Sale" area here too. You will get a fair price for them here, but don't be afraid to offer to ship them. Of course, they would have to go through an FFL....

The folks who buy and sell from the classifieds here are a knowledgeable and honest bunch for the most part. Any number of folks would be glad to help you establish values if you want to go to the trouble of shipping the guns and selling them here or advertise on multiple sites on-line. Some of the pitfalls to consider is the packing and shipping costs, the time, and extra cost to cover a local FFL for shipping under his license or missing some sales because a lot of FFL's won't accept shipments from non-FFL holders; even for those who do you're constrained to use more expensive common carrier shipping so it's six of one, half dozen of the other, as they say . . .

Selling that many locally, you're probably going to get low balled on the one hand, but it may be you can find a shop or an FFL that would consign them or even take them all off your hands at once - but they'll have their money and time tied up and will need to buy at a price attractive enough for them to make money , especially if they have to sit on any number of them for a few months/years. You can advertise them locally and sell them piece-meal, but you'll deal with hundreds of nuts, flakes, tire kickers, and low-ballers, many of which you do NOT want to know where you live . . .

It can be a daunting proposition to move that many for someone who doesn't operate in those circles normally. Just accept that the easy ways are not going to bring as much return as the the more involved scenarios.

Of course, you can always spend the money on a table and set up at a gun show, but if you've read many of the postings here that story could take up a whole 'nother thread of its' own . . .

Thank you. Once I get some photos and research some values I will start posting some things online and see where that leads.

Assuming you'll want to sell off at least some of them, here is what one person did about 2 years ago: a LGS that I visit often had a gentleman bring in a collection of 100 assorted guns, mostly milsurp rifles, some pistols. They worked out a commission deal and the LGS put up the collection in the shop and online. Because the LGS had some skin in the game they tried to get the best prices for the collection. I don't know the commission rate, but I understood that because of the size of the collection it was less than the consignment rate. The LGS also took care of the shipping and transfers. It took about a year but they sold the entire collection.

I'll say that the father and son who own the LGS are very fair people. They will give a decent price for used and they don't over charge when they sell. Yes, they need to make a profit to stay in business, but they are reasonable - and they sell a lot of firearms. If you are in the northern Illinois area and decide to go this route PM me and I'll send you their contact info.

For an idea of value before you go to any GS, I'd check the firearms values publications and you might check the completed sales listings on Gunbroker to see what people acutally pay. Compared to what I see in gun shops, I think some of the GB prices are high. Certainly the GB asking prices are inflated- but that's why they are asking prices. And I've seen the same GB listing recycled several times because there are no bids. It really depends on what gun fad people are buying.

If you place adds online or in SGN you have to figure out a GS to ship through. Any LGS will want something for shipping and transfers, the have to pay for their license. That will increase your cost of sale.

Some of those calibers especially the first three you listed would be more valuable in places like Alaska or North Canada. The dies would fetch a nice penny. I would recommend holding on to them until you get enough information that you feel comfortable selling them. There could possibly be a gem or two in your collection. A good start would be to take photos and post them on here.

Since its Christmas time and i am feeling charitable. I will buy them all for 25 bucks each......ok, thirty............seriously tho, You can list them with a pic and condition and most of the folks on here can tell ya what they are worth. Gonna take a little work on yer end tho

I appreciate all the advice. I went through all the cases last night to get models and calibers. I will spend time this weekend getting S/N,s and photos and researching each weapon before I start selling them. Thanks again.

Do your research, clean them up and make them all shiny and pretty then take them to either a Pawn shop or a gun shop that buys guns. You'll probably get more if you sell them individually to several different shops. Either way, it's ammo money or a nice shiny new revolver.

Mostly lever action and bolt action weapons, some black powder... all pretty much hunting oriented. Some specialty cartridges like 45-70, 375win , 444, 222rem, etc. All with reloading dies and some brass too. Even some factory ammo.

How would I even go about selling these? There are about 40 of them. I have taken what I want but the rest I have neither the room nor the desire to keep them. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am a little overwhelmed at the moment as it came as a great surprise and I am grateful but it also is a burden for me.

Do your homework and learn that they are worth.

If the burden is too much, give them to someone else.

Another option:
Do your homework, price them fairly and get a table or two at the next gun show. What doesn't sell can always go on the internet.

If your not familier with the guns and their values, contact a gun dealer in your area who will put them up for sale either in his/her shop or on internet auction. (or both)

Sure they will want a percent of the sale price. (most often about 20%) But they take care of setting price, collecting payment, legal paperwork, etc.

Be aware the dealers will charge a consignment fee of from 15-20% to handle the sale. A gun auction (if there are any in your area) will charge similar fee's. Listing here will cost you nothing, and the buyer will pay the shipping. Good pictures are a real Plus when selling, and a detailed description of any faults.

The owner of this forum does this type of thing for a living. Rather than try to sell each yourself talk to Lee to see what services he can offer -His handle is "handejector". Look for the big GO-rilla avatar.

If you want him to find you quick-start a thread about pitbulls carrying M&P 22's with fake suppressors storming the capital to overthrow the government-but then they stop to fight about the lock :D

A .444 Marlin is something I always wanted for Christmas. I'll get you some eggnog and we can even cuddle up by the fire, but the deals off if you try to make out with me under the mistletoe. I have to draw the line somewhere.

First of all I would be like the others enlist some help of friends and or a LGS. It would be more helpful when asking for help to know what part of the Country you live in. Ther are some very knowledgable people here on this site and are scattered all over. Not me though I thought I was but after being here I have found out I know as much about guns as I do computers. But then again you might be someones next door neighbor that is here and very smart BUT nobody knows how close you are.

Door to door is an option. I sure would love to see some fellow pulling a wagon full of guns at my door instead of one of them Zombied out Watchtower folks with a pamphlet.

I told you I wouldn't bother you again, and I am not zombied out,
I have Rosacea (from my meds and being out in the sun).
