Input needed...Night Guard OR

Having a heck of a time deciding whether to get a Night Guard 327 8 shot or a 627 4 inch 8 shot. It would be for general use including vehicle gun. I have been over the plus and minus ideas for quite a while and have not gotten off the dime. Just thought tonight I would just get both and be done with it. Then the thinking part kicked in again. Is there something that stands out in one over the other? Hate to seem confused but for some reason I just cant pull the trigger so far. Input would be appreciated.

I'd go with the 627, had a nightguard and didn't keep it very long. NG was a neat gun, but didn't care for the multiple piece barrel and stainless piece on frame that stops flame cutting. Just didn't know what kind of shape it would be in a few years down the road. If a stainless gun starts to show some wear, it still looks good. Stainless seems to be much more durable in my opinion. There's my two cents worth, if it's worth even that much.

I have a 325NG which is a regular carry gun for me. It is light (27.5 oz), accurate enough for my needs and will probably stand up to the 75 to 100 rounds a month I'll probably put through it. At my age, it doesn't have to last 30 years!

A steel N frame is more comfortable to shoot, will last forever, and the stainless versions, with a little care, look good for years. They are heavy to begin with, and by the end of the day they feel like a boat anchor.

If you are not going to be carrying it on your person for long periods everyday, I'd go with the 627.

627 for sure. You can never go wrong with a 4 inch .357 Magnum. The Nightguard series has a short barrel, are unnecessarily light, not as versatile, and they just plain look silly (if you or anyone reading this get your feelings hurt easily, then substitute the phrase "they just do not look like a traditional double action revolver from S&W").

If the intent is personal defense, I would go with the Nigh Guard. The standard tritium front sight and extreme duty fixed rear sights are solid and very nice. The lighter weight is an asset anytime one carries a weapon. I have two scandium framed N frames and one L frame and they have stood up to thousands of round of pleasant shooting.

as much as I like the Night Guards, I'd just get a more "standard" gun.

Just a follow up post...Well I now have both the 627 4" and the 327 NightGuard. Got the 627 first and just ordered the 327 today. The .357 collection is starting to grow again. Thanks for all the input/help.

I'm interested to hear about any FTFire issues with the 327NG. I ended up having to replace the firing pin in my 329NG for this very reason. Or has S&W now addressed the issue of too short firing pins in many Night Guards?

Pick it up tomarrow...Hopefully will be shooting soon after.
Will let you know. I assume I will have to get the firing pin fixed as alot of them have this problem and Smith seems to have trouble getting ahead of the curve. We will see.

Sorry forgot to mention, if this works OK I am going to get the 325. I see that also has the FP problem, but once corrected it is a great shooter. I will let you know about that one also.
