New to the shield thing . I will not carry that much but would like a holster for when I do. ? Do I want a inside the waistband or outside . I am a t shirt blue jean guy .
Looks like inside conceals better but not as comfortable. The shield it a tad big for the pocket.

thanks for your input.

I guess I just need to try one of those giant Alien holsters because I can't see how that much more bulk inside my pants would be comfortable.

I always wear inside the waist. It's actually more comfortable because the gun is between me and the belt. On the outside waist holsters they just hang off the belt and seem to pull down more than the inside waist. That being said not every holster is the same. I tried the holsters that are molded for the gun, usually leather, and find them uncomfortable. On the other hand I'm a fan of the hybrid type holster where the gun only sticks out towards the outside. A proper holster and belt are of course needed. Also your jeans need to be a size or two larger depending on what style you wear and the company making the jeans. For normal ware I use size 34 waist but with a gun it's anywhere from 34 - 36

For IWB I use crossbreed supertuck, but ever since I picked up my shield I've been doing a lot of OWB carry. Surprisingly it's pretty much every bit as concealable as my IWB holsters, and much more comfortable. Get one of each, but purchase quality products your first time. I have a cheap desantis OWB that I use for my shield, but me new OWB holster should be here tomorrow.

Garrett Industries, Silent Thunder STX 2.0. Its kydex lined with leather and I've heard and read great things. It's not cheap, ringing up at about 100 bucks, but you get what you pay for.

I use an IWB as it works in all seasons. Summers can get real warm, and if your weapon is OWB, a t shirt may allow easy "printing".

I usually carry in a Kydex IWB (PJ Holsters), but will use an OWB (Safariland 637x ALS) if I'm going to be working outside - it's more comfortable if I'm doing a lot of bending, lifting or climbing. Not a fan of the big maxi-pad style IWBs.

As I type I'm in jeans and tee shirt with my Shield IWB in a Blackhawk leather tuckable holster. Not any problem at all. It's quite comfortable. I
Carry at about 2:30, just slightly in front of my hip.

Obviously, many like them and I've never tried one, but how in the world is a kydex only iwb holster ever going to be comfortable? Doesn't the hard edge of the kydex dig into you?

I wear "The Treadstone" by Overwatch Holsters. Ian makes a great product and this IWB is very comfortable carried in the 3:00 o'clock position. It's a single clip and did not require that I get a bigger pant size.

Check out Crossbreed Appendix carry IWB, I love mine, I occasionally also carry it at 4:00 without any issues.

Go check out hidden hybrid holster systems. That's what I use. It can be used as a Tuckable iwb but also has belt slots so you can use it as an owb. All you do is take off the clips and you are good to go. I love mine. Very comfortable and very high quality. It was about 60 but we'll worth it. Hidden Hybrid Holsters

For me IWB is the most comfortable and easiest to conceal . I prefer a Hybrid type for the stability and the belt clips are spread out farther most of the time distributing the weight better . Everyone's different though so unfortunately you will have to try and see what works best for you .

Both

You want a few IWB and OWB holsters. Hybrid holsters don't cut it IMO.

I like leather for OWB. Miss quieter and more forgiving to movement. For IWB, kydex or kydex /let her mix are best.

Recommend a simple scabbard or bikini holster for OWB with a high ride. For IWB I like the comptac Minotaur or mtac. You want kydex belt clips, not metal. They won't spring off your belt if you get something like clothes bundled up under the clips.

Oh.....a holster is only as good as your belt. Get a good reinforced concealment belt from beltman.com or similar before buying any holster.

IWB, I wear a Tommy Theis holster. Mostly in business casual so I need to stay concealed. I have found that there is no sometime or kind of carry. It goes on my belt in the morning no different than making sure I have my mobile phone and wallet. I used to go OWB on weekends when I was casual and wearing jeans but have found I prefer IWB all the time.

The considerations of comfort and concealment are discussed frequently when considering inside or outside the waistsband holster carry.

However, what I found to be the deciding factor for me is getting a solid, sure grip on the firearm quickly in an urgent situation. I find it much easier and quicker with an OWB holster.

Admittedly my arm motion isn't what it used to be and cover clothing (see note) does vary the difficulty . . . but I OWB carry whenever possible and dress accordingly.

note: open front shirts work best for me . . . better than pullover cover e.g. sweatshirts, sweaters, T-shirts etc.

Personal experience will tell you a lot about what works best for you but I wanted to add yet another item to consider.

Be safe and practice with an unloaded firearm,

Russ
