Insomnia ?

Ever since being retired and having cancer sometimes I have problems sleeping.
Also due to a back injury in my youth with deteriorating discs in my lower back I do have some pain at the end of the day.
So I started taking Alieve PM,,,works for me and I sleep through the night and my back don't hurt in the morning when I get up! ;)
 
Sometimes, I go through a couple of weeks when I can't get to sleep. Then sometimes I can get to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. I used to frequent a certain thread that shall not be mentioned to find out who else was not sleeping. I would hang out there a while and then try to sleep some more. I figured that I would either be boring enough to help them sleep or vice versa. Now that I've posted this, I figure I have put at least half a dozen forum members right out. Sleep tight.

My knees sometimes hurt bad, usually with a weather change. Do you take it nightly or just when you feel pain?

Interesting thread. Funny that I'm reading this at 0350; been up since around 0215. This is like most nights: fall asleep fine, just can't stay asleep. For me this comes in cycles. I'll sleep fine the night thru for a few weeks, then start the next cycle and I'm up for most of the night for want seems like weeks. Nap during the day to catch up. Don't mind getting up early; been doing that most of my life. But would like to cut these cycles of wakefulness down. I'm just getting too old for this stuff.
 
At 62 I still have to get up at 5:30 as I'm the only morning person in the family..... to get everyone else going..................School Bus at 6:50

problem is I'm falling asleep/crashing at about 9-9:30 (been up 16-18hours) and waking up 2:30 -3:00...... sometimes I can go back to sleep and sometimes not so much!


PS: I love daylight savings time in the summer.......... but it after 7am and sunrise is still a half hour away!!!!!!!! Dang its DARK out!!!!!!!

noticed that many replys, and some members are logged on when I've read the insomnia threads during the early am. hard to tell if there are any women w/ replys. my time is EST W/PA. and the replys are from all over the map. to bad that a sticky couldn't be started on a part of the forum. i'm sure there would be a lot of input, tried solutions, projects stated/ finished in the am, illness related and just a sticky to relate to others w/ this occurrence. even locals meeting at resturants for early coffee / breakfest. just a thought. not sure if a moderator could suggest the process of a sticky start.

I just started taking it recently. I now get from 2-7 hours sleep nightly. Last night, I finally drifted off for about an hour-in front of the tv.

Since I have been in my teens I have been a very light sleeper. Most times the least little thing will wake me up. At that point I normally will cat nap for the rest of the night, with about a 60% awake and 40% in a light sleep mode.

As a lot have commented I am also a member of the mind will not shut down club. A normal night for me is to lie awake at least a hour before I do drop off in to a little semblance of sleep.



With the minimum sleep I do get for the most part I function all right.(:D the wife will not agree with that statement) There are many OTC sleep aids and I only use them after a period of less than normal sleep (for me) . Do to my health problems and the script meds I'm on many drugs are verboten for me.

I THINK the same thing is happening to me now? Ill get about 2-3 hours deep sleep, wake up for sip of water, then I guess? I sleep so lightly that I can hear a roach fart.

I was beginning to wonder if insomnia was an older-age issue till mentioned otherwise.
 
good morning guys. last night asleep at 9:30, exhausted, but awake at midnight. leg / ankle cramps. any known remidies for leg cramps? if I take a nap during the day, usually not though, only sleep 20 minutes but it seems like an hour. at least during the summer months I can go outside early and do some stuff outside. probably be up to 5 am, try to get a nap in, up and another day doing manint. to prepare the property ready for winter. weather man predicked twice as much snow this year, didn't even fire up the snoblower last year, but the air really smells like winter the several mornings that have been in the lower 30's. everyone have a good day.
 
Not really insomnia but the last couple months I've been waking at 0320, give or take 2 minutes either to crawl under a blanket or have a whiz if need be. Right back to sleep after a moment or two. Heard the dog wheezing earlier, looked at the wife's clock and saw 3:18. Took her out, went back to bed and up at the usual time 2 hours later.

I do. :D It was actually mentioned by another doctor-to sue the foot doc. I couldnt bring myself down to suing him as I thought he did a good job. It was about a year after surgery that I started feeling pain. I neverthought it would get as baad as it is now.
 
WHEW! I realize that it is not all that unusual for people to have trouble sleeping but I didn't know just how common it is. Seems like I'm runnin' with pretty fast company these days.

It seems unfair that we should be having trouble with sleeping. With all the other foibles and discomforts we must endure during waking hours you'd think that at least we'd be able to sleep with out any problems. It is one of the reasons I don't toss my lap top over the back fence. Just not much else to do in the middle of the night when sleep won't come.

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself here but I see now that I don't have near the problems some of you do. I am ashamed of myself for being such a cry baby. My sincere apology and condolences to Ringo and others who have so much pain. I will say a prayer for all to have some significant relief.

I never thought it was as common as it is either. Nobody from my entire family ever suffered from it-or at least not as long as I have.

Thank you on the pain thing--which reminds me I have to ask my doctor for a refill of Naproxyn SP? Without it and Lyrica at night, id never be able to lie down. Sitting and standing I can take the pain.

our pain/ challenge, whether related here/ shared with friends I only know from your threads/ replys , to my thinking/ shared feeling, is a form of rehab. only a person knows who has experienced, the ^^^^^^^^ other members occurences. Walkin Jack, it seems we've shared to a group of friends that can share w/ each other their survived experences.
