Hello !
Is it a must to drill & tap the frame in order to instal the adapter for a scope ?
Are there accessories to use the hole + tenon that exist for the rear sight ?
Regards

There aren't any mounts out there now. Weaver did make a mount which yoked to the barrel, and you used the screw holes from the rear sight to attach the rear of the mount. You might be able to find a used one somewhere.

Thanks dennis ! I have a mount made by tasco but there is a need to drill & tap in order to install it and since my 53 is in great condition i hate to drill it ! So i will look for the weaver mount .
Best regards

Weaver K scope mount

Weaver mount is hard on blue.It clamps on frame where barrel
screws in. On anything other than 22 you can't get it tight enough to avoid travel in recoil. It's Alumilum. I don't have a lot
of experience with 53s, but have seen it with 19s,when it was
the rage.

The problem with the older weaver mount that only secured via the tenon and sight screw is the small sight strap screw will often be sheared off by recoil, as low as 38 Special. That's the primary reason why they are no longer made. Having to drill out and re-tap that little hole is a pain if you know how and impossible if you aren't a machinist. If you take your 53 and have it drilled and tapped (under the rear sight strap, and not drilled completely through the top strap), you can replace the rear sight and not see the evidence of having been drilled and tapped.

You might look at B-Square mounts. I have one on a Model 17 with Leupold scope. It mounts on rear track in back and clamps to sight ramp in front. No drilling, hasn't come loose.

There is/was a side optics mount that replaced the sideplate screw with longer versions, along with a wider side piece that looped over the top strap. Don't know if it is still produced.

if you can find one i'd go with a Buehler base&rings,if i remember right they were a no drill base, used existing screw holes to mount

I have a nice 8-3/8", 53-0 ,4 screw that is drilled and tapped..Maybe we could talk a trade or something...

Hi O.G.:

I once had a hankering to install a red dot sight on my Model 625, and had no desire to drill and tap the top strap. I found and purchased a no-drill mount from these guys:

http://www.aimtech-mounts.com/Revolvers.html

Installation was fine, but you could not see the rear sight despite what the manufacturer said. Additionally, the mount, though made out of aluminum, absolutely ruined the balance of the piece. Additionally an N-framed revolver is not a light weight piece to begin with, and the added weight of the mount and reflex sight made the piece a bear to try and use. I took the mount off of the revolver and stuck with the stock sights. Of course, your mileage may vary, but I do not recommend the Aimtech mounts.

Best of luck,

Dave

Dear replaiers !
Thank you all so much for your knowledge shareing !!!
I think that i will try first to find a mount without drilling the frame and only if it will break i will install one that needs drill &tap (no prob. on my mill).
It is a great idea to drill under the rear sight not a complete hole !!! But i will do it only if there is no alternative i just like to keep my guns original as possible ! .
Thank you all & God bless you !
