Installed Troy Rail on 15-22. Thanks Tacticool22

Troy Battle rail

Tactical Tom

Cannot find a Extreme Battlerail anywhere. They have been discontinued. I tried an Alpha 11" Battlerail and I cant get it to secure. It uses a standard AR barrel nut and I also used the adapter from Tacticool22, just can't get it to work. any suggestions?

Not sure the barrel nuts are the same, Troy sends a new barrel nut with each new 'Alpha' rail (at least that is what came with one I bought, then sold before mounting it) so I'm guessing that the nuts are different, even if it's only a slight dimensional difference.

I'm wanting to do the same mod with the same TRX Extreme rail, since I have that rail on my 2 ARs, but may end up using a Midwest Industries rail instead.

Man, I just can't get my tacticool22 barrel nut to screw into my larue adapter. The threads appear to be right and the size looks right but it only screws in one half of a thread. I've removed the ano and it simply will not screw in. Any advice?

I checked the thread with a spare screw both seem to be the same thread pitch. Sucks. I don't know what more to do now...other than go to a machine shop...

Any chance the thread pitch is different?

PM sent.
There is the possibility the threads in the rail are too small.
If a standard AR barrel nut screws on, the hand guard is your problem.
If a standard nut does not screw on the adapter nut, then it is my problem and I will fix it as close to right now as is possible.

So I am assuming the Alpha Battlerail doesn't work? Any suggestions on a similar handguard that will work with the Tacticool22 conversion? Can't seem to find a TRX anywhere...

Thanks in advance!

I thought I do.
Do you mean to go from the 15-22 barrel to the Troy or Samson nut adapter for their rails.
I'm already in a very small niche market and to make a special nut like that would be expensive and sell veeerrrryyyy slowly. Plus each one is different and they already supply the adapter.
I usually don't like compromise, but on this I had to.

I think you made the right choice, given the market potential for any 15-22 "specialized" accessories. After watching the video, I'd like to do this conversion sometime. I have a Troy quad rail on my AR15 and really like their products.

Thanks for posting that tutorial video TacticalTom. I just received my conversion kit from Tacticool22 today. How much anodizing did you have to remove on the handguard adapter? I spent hours just now unsuccessful...:(
I tried it it on a noveske rail and also a regular m4 2 piece type handguard and it only goes in like 1/3 of the way at most close to half the threads...

Their barrel nut is machined too small. I have seen a few of them and none of them fit like they should. My adapters are made to fit a mil-spec barrel nut. They must want their nut to be extra tight.
If you have access to a lathe, take a rotary wire brush and remove all the anodizing on the threads, then turn a few thousandths off the top of the threads.
Use the wire brush inside their barrel nut to remove the excess material they may have in there too.

Are you keeping your barrel nut to where you have to 1/8th turn your handguard to lock it before your tighten down the screws?
