Hello All! Finally picked up my Mauser HSc, and tried a spare magazine that I had purchased in anticipation of receipt of the pistol. I had quite a rude discovery!

The magazine is an aftermarket Triple K made for the 380 HSc. I inserted the magazine into the magwell and was not able to remove it from the grip. (It inserted and seated without any effort. Seated it with the same force that I use with the factory magazines, since you have to overcome the heel release.)

In order to remove the magazine, I had to first remove the grips, then insert a screwdriver shaft into a round count hole in the magazine body and guide the magazine out while holding back the heel magazine release. (It would have helped it I were an octopus!)

Once the magazine was out, I compared the offending Triple K magazine with a factory Mauser magazine, making an interesting discovery. The Triple K magazine, while as long (muzzle to breach) and almost as tall (0.015" shorter) , it was about 0.004" wider than the Mauser magazine. In all honesty, I am ecstatic that I tried the magazine for fit before hitting the range.

Not certain if I want to try to return it or put a file to the magazine body and try to fit it to the Mauser.

Has anyone had a similar experience with their HSc or with Triple K magazines?

Sorry to hear that. I've heard nothing but bad things about Triple K and Promag magazines. They inexpensive and highly available for just about everything including firearms which have long since gone out of production which makes them very a very attractive option, especially when other magazines are expensive or hard to come by, but alas, they just don't have a good track record for reliability.

My brother bought a Promag magazine for his TCP once and he ended up having to watch an online video tutorial on how to modify it to get it working because apparently none of them ever work right out of the box.

Congratulations on the Mauser HSc though, they're great little pistols, similar to the Walther PPK in design and easy to break down.

@DHC,

Actually, this is my second had experience with a Triple K magazine. My first issue was with a 1911 magazine, as soon as I got the magazine home from the store I put 7 rounds in it, and the tack welded floor plate popped off under spring tension. That was about 40 years ago. Since they are still in business and this magazine was designed to have a removable floorplate, I thought I'd give them a second chance, especially since used Mauser HSc 380 magazines are quite expensive if you can find them!
