New Triple K Model 52 Magazines

The mags went back to Triple K a week ago by Priority Mail. Enclosed was a letter with what problems that I had and what I thought was wrong with the Magazines. Hopefully I will hear for their QA or someone responsible. Gave them email, house address and cell phone number. However, I doubt I will...........

Heard back from Triple K after I queried them about receiving the magazines back. Was told that will get a refund for them. Guess they are tired of trying to keeping the customer satisfied with their product.

This is one of the emails that I received from them:
" Please Return via 1st class mail to:

Triple K Mfg Returns

2222 Commercial Street

San Diego, CA 92113

Please include a copy of this email

There are some variants identified in the Camp Perry Competition last month. These fit and function in our bench guns and most of our customer guns."

Note the reference to Camp Perry? Is anybody actually shooting 52's there? I checked the online scores for the matches and did not see one 52 listed with a score.

Has anyone here got one that works?

AJ

My apologies for the very long delay. Made time to dig in some more with the problem and discovered a number of small things. First, the contact near base of magazine body turned out to be just a very small thing after relieving. Contact area shown on two photos.

The larger problem areas, and I note that very little was removed and them polished with 600 grit paper. Shown in these photos as the bright areas in the blue and some underway being dressed down. Each play about an equal part. Also note that these same areas might be a problem with other magazines, or they might not and could be elsewhere or not at all.

My gun is a 52-2. All fitting up to this point was done with magazines stripped and slide off of frame along with one stock panel removed.

As these areas were addressed the magazine body started to drop free of its own weight. At this point there was just the slightest but very positive resistance at the top maybe 3/8” to go. These two pic shows the problem area and tweaking it ten thousands by gently pressing against the bench edge and it completely solved the sticky issue. My two factory mags measured .475 and .480. The Triple K was .495
Clean full drops of just the weight of the mag body.

To get the follower to run in a factory magazine I had to make one small alteration shown in the photos. I have not shot it this was and hopefully may not even need too but I can if need be.

At this point I felt like I was really close. The still nagging problem of not getting the fifth round loaded. And I will add that the fourth was no treat but would always go in. Another session of measuring and I could not really find anything obvious. While doing this I noticed that e en though the slot dimensions were basically the same factory to Triple K the TK was a bit, and I mean very slightly rougher. So I smoothed and polished this on both sides and... success !........well pretty close. It now loaded and unloaded with about same effort as the factory. One more little hurdle to go shown in these pic. Notice it’s a full load of five rounds but is stuck in the slot. The follower is stuck and the round above it is t even touching the follower.

The second set that they sent me would drop clear of their own weight when empty, But if loaded would not drop unless pried out. That indicated that the lips were spreading with loaded rounds in the mag. Also had loading and feeding problems with them. Hope you get those working, as you have modified them to the point of no returning them for a refund. Triple K does not seem to care what the word on the street is about their mags. Just was glad to get my money back. Have better things to waste it on. if someone asks me about their product I will tell them it belongs in the same bag as the stuff folks pick up after their dog does his business.

But remember"they worked at Camp Perry"...........

Mr. Troy, ok, feed lips are to tight. So how do you remedy this situation?
Please dont tell me you have to tune them.

I measured the ones that worked with a dial caliper then carefully bend the lips of the ones that did not function correctly with a pair of needle nose pliers. I did not scratch them but I think it would be smart to wrap the tips of the pliers with masking tape. All of the ones that I “adjusted” started out too tight. I still have one that is not perfect but I will figure it out. On a side note my 52-1 after about 120 shots I need to clean it or it starts acting up.

Glad you were able to some what make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. So far you are the only one that has some use out of their 52 Mags.
