Sounds like a fine plan.
Have you priced OEM S&W 52 mags…?
I do not own a S&W M52 but I did go on eBay and price them. I have seen prices between $75 - $225 but that depends on condition. YES - that is a very pricey magazine however when one buys a M52 they need to understand that it is a highly specialized pistol in the first place! It is a target shooter's pistol and I would think that most people owning them are not expecting any type of "economy experience" in the first place. If one wants to own a precision target pistol that shoots ammunition never intended to be used in an auto loader in the first place, they would want to insure proper, consistent and reliable feeding and operation.
When you buy a $40,000+ Rolex I would highly recommend that the servicing be done
only by them (or a
genuine Rolex Factory Authorized Watchmaker)
only. I would
not let a neighborhood Watchmaker go near it - I know some people do. My feeling is that if you can afford the watch in the first place and are cognizant of what you are getting into - don't complain or cheap out when it comes to servicing it. Since Rolex will not sell their factory parts to an unauthorized Dealer, you are not getting "real deal", new parts if you are going to an after market Watchmaker. Don't know about some people, but I do not want used or aftermarket parts in a real 40+ K watch.
If people are buying a M52 and only want it for collection purposes than two magazines would more than suffice. If one is buying it for its intended purpose of accuracy and competing with, then they should have at least twice that number of reliable, well made Factory magazines IMO. As we all know, a pistol is useless without proper, reliable magazines. So my feeling is if one was setting out to buy a M52 they should be fully prepared to take a hosing on proper magazines for it.
Triple K mag's are cheap - but in my personal experience they are not worth anything as most I have had never worked properly and are just cheap, unreliable repro's. Now, I will be happy and humbled if the newer ones have been improved because after trying a bunch f them years ago they had totally turned me off - hence I never considered them ever again.
NOTE: After having similar experiences with the newer S&W M41 mag's and having zero luck with them in my vintage M41, I went back to buying used, excellent condition, original factory mag's for it. The higher price I payed was quickly forgotten because they work perfectly as intended without any hitches.
