Another one is Bocaccio's The Decameron, 10 people for 10 days isolated and each person told a story a day. Set during the 14th century Black Death plague.
 
John Barry's book on the 1918 flu is kinda topical...

I was required to read that in Western European history class. Not much more fun to read than watching the current daily news. Very matter of fact and clinical documentary.
