Interesting comparison between Pythons and a Model 19 Smith

This is the easiest way to solve the problem. Best of both worlds.

I always wanted a Smython. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild though.

I've owned dozen or so Model 19's over the years. From a "no dash" to a -9. They were all good guns. I can't say I didn't like any of them. I had a 1964 Python at one time. It was nice, but I didn't think it was the be all, do all that, and a bag of chips gun. I liked it because it was a Python. Hit a bump financially and sold it, and eventually sold off all the Model 19's too. They were just guns, and there was always another one around the corner.

Then in 2020 Colt bought back the Python. I was near the front of the line I think to get one. Now I've got three. I consider them to be the best revolvers I've ever fired. At least I shoot them better than anything I've tried. They are just great with 38 wadcutters, my usual load, but handle the occasional magnum I shoot just fine. I really learned to shoot DA with my first SS Python. Now it's been more or less replaced by a blue one, but only because I like blue guns better.

I don't have a Model 19 anymore. I do have a Model 15 though and took it to the range last week for 100 rounds of wadcutters all fired DA. Man that is a nice shooting gun.

I really like both, but I suppose I like the Python just a little better.

And the debate goes on.... I have a soft spot for Colts, but I also appreciate the S&W line. I don't care for the "hole" versions. Here's the long and the short of it (1963 snubbie Python and 1963 M27)

Compared: Vintage Python vs 2020 Python (warning: long and long-winded!) | 1911Forum

This is a good read. The S&W Model 19 (I think it is a Model 19-4 but it could be a 19-3) is towards the end when he is actually comparing the old Python to a new Python. And of course the S&W blows both away when it comes time to shoot. Probably about $400 cheaper than a new Python and maybe $1700 cheaper than the old one.
Good find, but where do you get "the S&W blows both away when it comes time to shoot"?

Compared to the vintage Python, the Model 19 -- which is tuned whereas the Python isn't -- wins one, ties one and loses one. Hardly a blowout. They both outperform the new Python.
