So back in the 1950's Hubley, who was a major cap gun manufacture, partnered with Colt and produced this cool little piece.

It's a Detective Special(See Barrel Stamping) single shot where the cap is placed between the frame and hammer. The box is an old micrometer box that I cleaned up a little, drilled holes for the bullets and put felt in the bottom.

(Can't believe the bullets are still with the gun. When I was a kid I would've lost them in the first 5 minutes :D)

Just thought I'd share something cool from the past.

Regards,

Wagging that cool thing around today would certainly create a lot of interest from do gooder Karens. Just think, we all use to run around with realistic cap guns when we were playing Cowboys. Longing for the good ole days.

If one tried playing "Cowboys" in many areas today the police would be on the scene in a matter of minutes. The current generation of youngsters have lost a great deal due to the all overbearing "Political Correctness". In my younger years I generally brought a gun to school every day as we'd hit the woods rabbit hunting as soon as school let out.

I'm in the High School class of 74, my best friend is from 76. His locker was the school's gun shop! Usually stocked with a k98 or 2 and Jap 6.5's, often single shot or bolt action shotguns and once and awhile a cheap Top Break revolver. After the GCA of 68, the town's hardware store would only sell ammo to kids who parents had given permission in person to the owner! Surplus cartridges, 22's, shotgun shells, and common calibers were sold by the piece. Non-common cartridges were available by the 10 or 25 or full box. (this continued until the mid 80's when he retired and sold the store)

With all this laxness in Gun Control, it is still a place where nobody was ever shot!

My youngest son (class of 2003 at a school 20 miles away) had a classmate "shot dead in the head", at a birthday party by a jealous boyfriend the year after they graduated! Neither of those families ever had dad's that took the kids plinking or hunting!

There is something wrong with this nation's gun policies!

I bought this carved black holster a few years ago, but didn't have a gun
that would fit in it. I figured out that a 1903 Colt would probably fit, but
I didn't want to spend the money. So, I bought this Hubley instead. It
fits fine. Then I gave the Hubley and holster to a great grandson.

That's a good looking rig!!

Now I need to get a holster.

Check the dimensions on your cap gun to see if they are the same as the
real Detective Special. If it is the same size, look for a holster made for
Detective Special, Agent, or Cobra on ebay.

Crazyp... The cap gun is half the size of the real McCoy but I'll be on the lookout.

Thanks for the suggestion,

When I was a kid about 47 or 48 a friend had a cap revolver that took caps that were flat and about 2" dia. and had six caps 60 degrees apart and I cant remember if it broke open or had a push out cylinder like a S&W revolver but I thought that was the neatest cap pistol I had ever seen. Jeff

This Hubley was my Christmas present in 1959. It was played with
for years till us Cowboys ran off all of the ( take a guess).
From the condition you can tell ammo was expensive (sound familiar)
So was not unusual to pistol whip ( guy wearing feathers)
Ammo is two piece and has to be pulled apart and a stallion cap
Put inside.
