I wanted an M&P10mm in the worst way for the longest time, but ultimately gave up on it and due to shortages ended up going in a completely different direction, and got myself a Heckler & Koch USP45 Elite earlier this year along with a few boxes of Buffalo Bore .45 Super ammo, which satisfied my need for a powerful semiautomatic pistol quite nicely.

I still wish that Smith & Wesson would come out with an M&P10mm though, if only for the folks who really want one and haven't selected a suitable alternative yet.
I may be being pessimistic here, but I really don't think it's happening, and a piece of cardboard with the M&P Logo and 10mm printed on it isn't nearly enough to convince me otherwise. So until Smith & Wesson announces it themselves, it's a hoax as far as I'm concerned.

For those of you who may be convinced that an M&P10mm is inbound based on that picture, then hold onto your hat for this one...

10mm Auto? Pfft... Try 20mm Vulcan!

Seeing is believing, right? And I just provided a much more realistic image than a simple piece of cardboard! Believe it!

But seriously, temper your expectations and await official confirmation before you get all excited over the M&P10mm or even the M&P20 that I just showed you and therefore it definitely exists.

I think Springfield just announced a 10mm XDm to go along with their 1911 10mm.

I read something yesterday that S&W was releasing a 10mm M&P very soon. I will have to look in my browsing history to see if I can find it again.

That will be interesting... how S&W is gonna name it to keep it consistent.;)

I wouldn't mind a 10mm S&W M&P. Currently all of my 10mm's are of the 1006 or 1066 variety and ammo is not an issue.

I would actually buy one because I keep looking at the Glock 20 but don't really want it...

Since there's already an M&P10 which is an AR-10 pattern Rifle, it would make the most sense for them to call it the "M&P10mm" as I have been calling it for years. It's simply the best option because even if they called it the "M&P10 Pistol" then folks might just think that S&W made a so-called "Pistol" version of the M&P10 Rifle.

A question would be an adaption of the M&P 45 (ala the Glock large-frame format) or a completely new design...?

I would hope for the latter...

Cheers!

A redesign, most likely. Otherwise it wouldn't have taken them this long.

Smith & Wesson isn't known for taking shortcuts like that to rush things to market either. All of their .40 S&W Pistols after the 4006 (which was a heavily modified 5906) were specifically designed for .40 S&W because they already knew that you couldn't just modify a 9mm Pistol to shoot .40 S&W and expect it to hold up well to a steady diet of it.

While .45 ACP Pistols may be large enough to accommodate 10mm Auto and with mass to spare, .45 ACP is a low pressure cartridge running at roughly half the PSI of 10mm Auto, and many of the early 10mm Pistols built upon modified .45 ACP designs like the First Generation Colt Delta Elite and Glock 20 aren't exactly known for holding up well to full-power 10mm Auto loads, so it would make sense for Smith & Wesson to take their time and design a pistol from the ground up for 10mm Auto, especially if they want to break into the market after all this time.

That is a pistol display stand. My local shop just got one in. I asked the obvious question and the only thing they knew was it just showed up and they had no other information. To me, the logical conclusion is something is on the way……
I'm not a 10mm guy, but am happy for those of you that are. Like the new SA35, it may be a while before it is readily available.

Maybe S&W decided a little leak would get interest and excitement building so they can sell more guns right after they come out.

If you send something like that to a bunch of dealers the odds of it getting leaked to the internet is about 99.99999%. It had to be intentional.

The great thing about a vague leak is all the 10mm fans can speculate about it being exactly what they want and start setting aside room in their safe for it. Some will buy it because it is what they want. Some will buy one even though it isn't exactly what they want because they urgently want to fill that gaping void in their safe with something. Nature abhors a vacuum and gun people abhor empty slots in a pistol rack.

The glock 20 was designed for the 10mm and was adapted to 45

Is that so? Well, be that as it may, early examples still weren't generally known for their longevity, mainly as a result of inadequate chamber support in factory barrels.

Of course die-hard fans will contest that statement, but those who are into handloading and like to shoot full-power (200grs @ 1200fps) loads tend to recommend swapping out factory barrels for aftermarket barrels with more chamber support and conventional lands and grooves rifling. More modern examples may have been improved, (have they made a Gen 5 yet?) but early examples had this issue which caused trouble for reloaders.
