So my FFL knows my weakness for all things S&W. I went over to finalize paperwork on a nice 5904 when I spy a blue snub on his table he uses for auction site photos. It’s a 10-5 square butt pinned snub that someone gold painted the various stamps. Bluing is almost perfect and stocks are sharp but the most interesting part is the ground off hammer spur.
Whoever did the work did a great job. It still has the single action notch as I can cock it. The trigger is incredibly smooth. Cylinder face has the faintest trace of burn marks. He offered $500 out the door so decided why not. Maybe a little high but on point for this area. Serial number puts it 1966-1967.
Just curious back in the 60s did the factory offer any service to bob a hammer?
Also while nice I prefer to remove the gold lettering. What would be a safe way to do so without ruining the bluing?
