Interesting Weaver history

Those El Paso Weavers are great scopes. I still have a K4 on a Savage 99, and mounted a V9 on my first Mini-14, way back in 1974. There were no commercial mounts for that recently released rifle back then, but a gunsmith on McCombs Road in El Paso manufactured one for me.

The first scope I ever had was a B4 I got in 1959, I have many Weavers but it will cost a fortune to get one repaired, the fellow that I had repair the last one was in El Paso and his number no longer works. I was very fond of the K-12's, the last one I bought was a T30 made in El Paso that I had T K Lee put a fine dot in it. They gave great value for the price. Jeff

One can still get a good used Weaver scope pretty cheap at most gun shows. Most of my .22 rifles have 1" K-series scopes mounted on them, I think the most expensive one cost me $30.

Once upon a time I bought a Weaver V 4.5 and put it on my Rem. 700 rifle. That thing was amazing. Crank all the way down to 1x and it was like looking at the world through a great big window. Pure poison on anything running. Crank it all the way to 4.5 and you could hit anything out to the next time zone. Rifle was .30-06 Springfield. Later put that scope on my 77-22 Ruger. Shot a lot of groups w/ that rifle at 100 yds. With care, it'd stay under 1.5 inches. Never noticed any real parallax with that scope.

That little 77-22 currently has a pretty little Weaver 2-7x Sideview mounted on top. It came off a Remington 03-A3 that was getting a new Leopold. The Weaver was free. Really great scope! Would love to have another 1-4x or 1-4.5x scope. Nowadays all I see are the high horsepower scopes ... big bucks. For my hunting, I just don't need a 6x18 5mm to hit deer that are never more than maybe 200 - 250 yds. away. Miss those Weavers. Sincerely. bruce.

Years ago when I had a Mini 14 I bought a Weaver scope kit for it. Came with the mount and rings. The scope tube was stainless steel instead of aluminum. I've never seen one like it since.
