I just got a Model 625 JM and I heard that there is a kit that can be installed to plug the ILS system. I had heard rumors of some guns self-locking under recoil. Is this just a myth, or should I look into it further? Also, I have a Model 25-2, Parkerized, with a 3 3/8" barrel. Was this a factory barrel length, or has someone modified this gun? Of course the model 625 is a full 4 inches.

I just got a Model 625 JM and I heard that there is a kit that can be installed to plug the ILS system. Check out the classifieds as Bullseye smith has a plug for the lock cylinder. The plug is a cosmetic approach if you decide to remove the part/parts or not.I had heard rumors of some guns self-locking under recoil. Is this just a myth, or should I look into it further? Some guns have reported to have a problem. The odds of having problems with yours is next to nothing. Look in the faq sticky above for more lock related information. Also, I have a Model 25-2, Parkerized, with a 3 3/8" barrel. Was this a factory barrel length, or has someone modified this gun? Of course the model 625 is a full 4 inches. Someone may have the answer without me looking it up. Remember to measure the barrel length from end of cylinder to tip of muzzle

Yes, the 3 3/8" barrel length was measured from the end of the cylinder to the end of the barrel. I've just never seen a Smith with a 3 3/8" barrel before. It has a very nice symmetry and balance with that barrel length and large frame, along with a very nice 'purposeful' look with the parkerized finish and the black rubber Hogue grips. Black on Black on Black. A very mean-looking, very nice shooting .45 with the custom internal work - a glass-smooth double action pull and very light single action pull with no creep and almost zero over-travel. I wish that I could know the full history of some of the used guns that I've bought over the years.
