I'm not a new member, but I've never introduced myself. Sorry about that.

I'm a 75 yr old guy who has been shooting various guns since I was about 10 yrs old. My Dad taught me to shoot with a Winchester model 62 pump .22 rifle, which I still have. My brother was a NM State policeman (RIP) and I wound up with a couple of his pistols when he passed on. A Colt Combat Commander .45 and a S&W model 19 .357 magnum. That revolver is still my #1 choice for an accurate, powerful handgun. I carry it with an over-one-shoulder baldrick rig when out wandering the back country where I live. It's also handy in the closet because my wife can operate it (like her model 36) . My concealed carry pistol is a S&W Shield Plus 9mm. Like the old model 19, I have 100% confidence in its reliability and effectiveness. I enjoy the wealth of knowledge, and the willingness of the members here to share it.
US Navy veteran, I worked on F4 Phantoms on the USS Ranger, 1967-1971.

I like your user name. Reminds me of my initiation into the Order of the Arrow in the Sacramento Mountains of Southern NM. During that weekend, and between the manual grunt work and starvation diet, we had to carve a Gila Monster. Not sure that mine looked much like the real deal, but it passed muster and I received my sash.

So, gila_dog, I'm guessing you are somewhere between Hillsboro and Silver City.

Welcome from Illinois. The Land of Lincoln and the home of the Chicago Bears.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina.

I agree with you regarding the S&W Model 19. I carried a 19-4 as my duty weapon for nearly 25 years even though 90% of the department had transitioned to pistols. It is still in the family.

Welcome from CT. Thanks for sharing your background. Great to have your brothers guns and that you carry his model 19. I share your like of the model I have two model 19-3 both former police guns. One has been hard chromed and I used that one when shooting in a couple of NRA police firearms instructors courses. Good thing I had brought extra ammo - all the young cops wanted to shoot it after classes.
