I wanted to introduce myself, but decided to wait until my mods were complete to do so. I'm about 80% done, and since the next few mods will take a month or 2 to complete...figured I'd show you what I've got so far.

I'm pretty new to shooting, have a Sig 226 Tac Ops handgun, and recently purchased the M&P 15-22 after a lot of research. Like most, I started out wanting an AR, but decided that due to budget for ammo, and ease of shooting a 22 at most indoor ranges around here...the 15-22 would be my best bet. Eventually I plan on getting a Sig 516...but the M&P 15-22 is my tactical toy for now!!

I started out with a project in mind...as many I think, to make this thing tactical and look great. Though....every accessory on here plays a role, and nothing has been added for looks only. But since I was going to add said accessories, I wanted them to come out looking like they belong together, not a gun full of throw away random parts. With that said, here's what I've got.

Started out with a stock rifle, threaded barrel and flash suppressor on the end. Added some goodies, so I'll outline them below with pictures (because everybody loves pictures!!).

Then I added a Streamlight TLR - 1s HP light with button:

Then a forward grip ($7 I think, off Amazon) and ladder rail covers ($4.99 off Amazon). The grip folds/locks to several positions. It's not 100% solid, has a little play, but its worth more than what I paid anyway.

Then I filled in the M&P letters + fire/safe letters...with you guessed it...crayon!

Then added Fab Defense Mako Grip and Mag Well Grip (I really like shooting the gun from the mag well grip. Feels more comfortable to shoot + provides more stability for me.) As well as a NcStar Mark III scope:

Lastly a UTG OP-2 bi-pod:

Purchased a couple extra mags...and for now the gun is complete. In the future I'd like to add MOE collapsible sites, MOE stock, and a sling. I don't see myself making any changes or additions after that.

I've got a newer one, DZW serial #, and after 600 rounds or so, I've not had a single FTF, or FTE. So far the ammo and gun have performed perfectly.

Big thanks to everyone's pics/feedback on here on their own projects. This site has been a great resource for me (as well as YouTube!).

I'm pretty new to shooting, have a Sig 226 Tac Ops handgun...
I almost bought one on Wednesday, but found I shot it less accurately than a Springfield 1911 9mm or my Kimber .45. And it shot several inches to the right, with non-adjustable sights. Loved the look/feel/20-round mags and DA/SA trigger, though.

What's your experience with it?

Oh, uh, welcome! :D

Mine shoots just low to the left. I'd say it was just me...but have had several people shoot it from the same distance, and we've all had the same result. I haven't really looked into it yet though.

I also love the feel and look. Mines in 9 mm. Four, 20 round mags...bring on the zombies!

Welcome! Nice gun.

You say all those mods are there for a reason, can you please explain some of them more?

Like the adjustable vertical grip AND a mag well grip? What's the point of both grips?

If you want the vertical grip for the light access, then look at the "RMG (REACT Magwell Grip)", it isn't a true mag well grip as it attached to the rail, but it is meant to attach right back near the mag. It has a built in light switch mount. The cord on the TLR-1 looks long enough to reach that far back and you could save some weight.

You can get some La Rue cable management tabs to conceal the cord and prevent it snagging.

Keep us posted!

Welcome.... it's looking great, nice mods!

That mag well grip looks good - may have to get one now. :D

Thanks folks.

When I first shot the gun, I found that holding onto the magazine area (not the actual magazine) was very comfortable for me. Felt great being "in close", if that makes sense. So I looked at some mag well grips options because I didn't want to be holding the mag area specifically. Though, both the with and without the mag well grip...I never actually touch the magazine, so no issues there with it affecting feeding of the rounds.

The foreward grip is just another gripping option separate from the mag well. I wanted something slightly more beefy to hold on to other than the naked rails themself, so looked at other rail options for grips, and ultimately settled on this one becuase it gives me 2 extra options in one. If you look at the grip head on, its pretty wide...so with it collapsed all the way horizontal to the rails, its a good handhold. Plus, extended down, it gives a different shooting option.

Kind of like with the bi-pod and the scope. Adds extra ways to shoot the gun. Standing up, sitting down, long range with the scope, short range with iron sites, different hand holds...etc. This way myself and friends at the range have different options of how to shoot it. And we only shoot for fun, no competition, or hunting small game.

The mag well grip was a pain in the butt to dremel down. Only because its a lot of trial and error to get it to fit.

Magazines? I have five and I find myself reloading them all a couple of times during a range session, and that's sticking a tracer in every fifth-round! I've seen the drum magazines but have also heard about poor reliability; any recommendations? Wish I was bright enough to invent a belt-feed for the thing!

welcome! nice looking gun, looks like you've got a pretty nice setup.

Welcome aboard!! I have 5 mags as well and think I need more, but just had to restock on .223, 7.26, and .22 ammo so more mags are gonna have to wait a bit after that bill lol.

On Saturday morning I had 4 25rnd mags and the compliant 10rnd mag. On Saturday night I had 5 25rnd mags!! The compliant one is going to stay loaded with varmint ammo because it is tough to load without the loading buttons. But it now holds 25 rnd of varmint ammo instead of 10!!!

Mags v ammo ... weighty decision. :)

PM me an address and I'll send you a loading button for it. Call it an early Christmas present. :)
