The local Tucson TV station has sent a team to Virginia to "cover" the hurricane. Why in the world this rinky dink station needs a crew there is beyond me. I assume that the folks on the east coast have their hands full and need looky loo wanna be journalists like they need a hole in the head. It's not like Irene isn't being covered. Every network has round the clock coverage that features the local stations that actually know what is going on. It will be a frosty summer day in Tucson before I ever watch that station again.

I have never understood the logic behind the same people who say "Stay inside or you will DIE!!!" sending reporters and camera crews outside in the same storms.

If you think it is a rinky-dink station now, you should have watched it during the early 60s! Home brewed, very corny commercials and all! We could receive 9the in Scottsdale most of the time, and almost always at night. We would actually change channels to 9 during commercial breaks, because the commercials on the Tucson channel were home made, incredibly amateurish, and extremely funny - great entertainment! Back then, Tucson channel 9 call sign was KGUN - don't know if it still is.

Well, turns out there's not that much to cover. The terrible tidal surges didn't happen, there was some beach erosison, but most of the damage is going to be from rain, flooding inland, and wind damage. I've have seen no serious structural damage in any of the coverage. I've seen more damage in the South from straight line winds and tropical storms. Of course, there is always power outages. NY's major problem is going to be all of the underground facilities they have. And, of course, they aren't telling us anything about North Carolina and Virgina. Probably didn't hit there, like it didn't wipe most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast off the face of the earth during Katrina, but all they could talk about was New Orleans. Seems like the same thing all over again with the New York coverage.

This was Channel 4 but 9 is just as bad. Just the curse of small market stations. If they want to help give their crew shovels and sand bags to fill and see how fast they beat feet back to good ole Tucson.

Could the AZ station be a sister station of a local one? When that tornado hit Joplin over the summer one of the stations here sent a crew out there to help out their sister station in Missouri.

I can attest to the fact that Tucson has idiots to spare. Some are journalists, but many more constitute the local government.

Channel 9, an ABC affiliate, is still KGUN. Channel 13, the CBS affiliate, is KOLD. It's sister station up in Phoenix is KOOL.

Why????WHY???? The same reason that the City Court Judges with a jurisdictional limit of $15k in civil case and misdemeanors in criminal cases have their annual city court judge symposium on class action mass tort disasters and how to manage the trial of a serial killer in Bermuda.
Of course maybe I should keep quiet as I hope to join the robed ranks in about 18 months at which time this posting may very well come back to haunt me :D
