Is 50$ to little for polishing services?

Hello I am starting up a polishing business for my fellow gun enthusiasts. I truly enjoy doing what I do so I only charge 50$(65$ if I have to do the disassembly) to polish a slide. 50$ is about a third the price of what I see listed on most business websites. So naturally I figured people would jump on such a good deal and they have mostly I have done a few jobs and the people seem very happy and make recommendations. But not as much as I thought but anyways my question? Is 50$ to low? Because sometimes people say well if its cheap then its probably not good work but that's not the case I pour my heart into it and picture each gun as my own so I make sure its done right. Any business tips would be appreciated.

Looks nice on that M&P. I have always liked the polished look on certain SS guns - More durable then nickel, and easier to keep that way.

I agree it is pretty nice just to do a quick wipe with the shirt and have your gun nice and slick again but me I'm OCD so I'm wiping all the time I sure do love that shine lol

i just paid s&w 175.00 to refinish a 686 no dash. if someone likes the polished look i don't think you are charging to much. if you put your heart into it, just let you're work speak for itself.
just an idea, how about a factory like refinish option

It might be that the account is new, and there aren't to many reviews on you. I want my xds barrel only polished but I am afraid that the person I send it to Will take off too much or not be legit. There is a concern of shipping out your weapon parts to someone you know little about.

Ya I agree that's y I'm glad member ccwky gave me a chance and he is a happy customer sending me some referrals. I will be more than happy to help you and only a one week turn around . Once I have been here a little longer I'm sure people will trust the situation more you can never be too safe but that's why I became a member and donated I am here for the long haul and I love doing the polishing.

hopefully you have a FFL , if not you may be breaking the law..
I went through some issues with my blueing buisness..
found out a few things.
polishing the slide according to the ATF is "customizing" or altering the appearance of a firearm..
Q: Is a license needed to engage in the business of engraving, customizing, refinishing or repairing firearms?
Yes. A person conducting such activities as a business is considered to be a gunsmith within the definition of a dealer.

also they need to be entered into your "Bound book" if in your possesion of more than one business day .

Q: Does a gunsmith need to enter in a permanent "bound book" record every firearm received for adjustment or repair?
If a firearm is brought in for repairs and the owner waits while it is being repaired or if the gunsmith is able to return the firearm to the owner during the same business day, it is not necessary to list the firearm in the "bound book" as an "acquisition." If the gunsmith has possession of the firearm from one business day to another or longer, the firearm must be recorded as an "acquisition" and a "disposition" in the permanent "bound book" record.

Not trying to be a bummer, just don't want to see anyone else have to go through the hassel I did..

If the OP never receives the serial numbered part of the firearm, he doesn't need an FFL. He is only dealing with parts.

He does need the required local and state business licenses. Sooner or later someone will let the proper authorities know about him operating an unlicensed business. Ask me how I know....... Then even the IRS gets involved.

Just to be clear I would never take someone's whole firearm. I am not an FFL. In my polishing thread I clearly state not to ship your gun. Anyone under the sun can buy slides, barrels, and magazines. It is not regulated only the serialized parts. I am far from a gun smith. I am a metal worker with the tools to work on a few parts that go to a gun. I am far from a business just a guy helping people out. I am sure not getting rich I'm sure the IRS has bigger fish to fry then the guy who makes $50 every once in a while. Maybe people are looking into this way to much but I am a guy just like you who happens to enjoy polishing parts so in my free time I help other people get a sweet deal. There are companies where you can pay around $175 from a Real business and have a long wait while they
but I'm not try to get rich here your paying for the tools and compounds I'm pretty much working for free. Anyone who has done a polish job will know that it takes hours and hours of time to get it nice. I don't really make anything. It's a hobby I love doing though so I don't mind putting in the labor. When the person gets there slide back and sends me pix of it together all excited that is what makes it all worth it. I love doing it as a hobby and it helps other people get a good deal so win win situation.

Yes most glock factory barrels have serial numbers on them but In the US the receiver or fire control unit is considered the firearm. You notice most other manufacturers do not include serial numbers on there barrels but Glock is just making all there parts serialized because they do a lot of overseas business and other countries require that more parts be serialized. Fortunately for us in the states we can buy almost an entire gun with out anything special being done. Such as an AR where you only need to register the little part of the lower receiver but can buy everything else anywhere no questions asked. Or like my SIG p250 anyone can buy the caliber exchange kits and they come with the whole upper slide including barrel a frame and magazine because the only part that is registered is the fire control unit that slides into the frame. Gotta love the US kinda :-\ lol
