Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving???

My wife and I are celebrating Thanksgiving at my daughter's and her husband's home in Emerald Isle, NC this year.

My SIL is in charge of the turkey, my daughter the cranberry fluff, dressing, and fresh green beans, and I am doing the butter pecan sauce and a sweet potato souffle.

The butter pecan sauce is the gravy for the sweet potato dish, and the combination is delish!

A variety of pies will be available for dessert. I'm grabbing a slice of apple, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and topping both with some butter pecan sauce.

A long walk with my Scottie, Dorie, will be needed to trick myself into believing I hadn't overdone it at the Thanksgiving dinner table. LOL

Went out to start the Traeger smoker at 7:20am on smoke, since it was 24* outside.

Set the temp at 180 and it read 224 and climbing, 10 minutes later.
Shut it off and will retry in 15 minutes.

I hope things work out, otherwise it is oven time. (Bummer)

I know you've already cooked it and eaten it by now but pulled mine off the Traeger a bit ago (resting now). These things are incredible. Cook 13 minutes per lb at 350. A quart of chicken stock in the bottom of pan (think gravy!). Baste with butter for last hour.

We had about 25 at my (almost 93 YO) Dad's home today. Each nuclear family group brought food. We all ate too much, and it was all delicious. We took slow cooked brisket (all night at 275) and my wife's signature corn pudding. There was turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, sweet carrots, hot rolls, mac and cheese, and several kinds of pies and cakes.

We had 14 for dinner this year, the 42nd year my mom has hosted Thanksgiving for the family. We used to have much bigger crowds, one year we had 32 people, but the passage of time has thinned the herd. Everyone ate well, nobody brought up politics, and a good time was had by all.

PS the Trager worked it's magic and the ham turned out great.

HOWEVER..........

I did not see it coming.

Some how I ended up carving the two Turkeys AND the Ham !!

A great time had by all and to top it off my wife's daughter got
purposed to at 1 pm and received a very large diamond ring, from her
kneeling boy friend, to get the party started.

How sweet it is.
