This thread made me think of something I miss doing on the big holidays.
When I was on active duty the Chiefs, colonels and general (if there was one), would serve the holiday meal at the chow hall. Most who passed through the line were on duty, but there were always lots of single airmen who lived in the dorms, too.
My usual station was the turkey. More than one wing commander told me he didn't know if he could afford to have me serving the turkey! I'll admit the portions were generous. Great memories.
