is it just me or is this COMPLETELY stupid

Agreed on most points, especially why anyone would intentionally leave a gun where a child can get it.

I believe the best function is being able to see if anyone, i.e. the child, has been playing with the gun. Unless something unthinkable happens you probably would never know.

The problem I see is you yourself forgetting about it and finding yourself with a useless gun, staring at a BG, after you trigger it.

my point exactly, and if you are a responcible gun owner with children of any age you have some form of gun safe anyway, and you use it, not the mattress

I agree. It's a stupid fix for some lazy ass who cant put his weapon away properly so a child cant get to it..........

I don't know whether I'd call it stupid, but it surely isn't something I'd do. I prefer (and the state of MA requires) more positive steps against unauthorized handling, and as far as rendering the gun useless in a life-and-death emergency, it is an accident waiting to happen.

I take it back - maybe it IS stupid.

This charts new ground, indeed. At last something that everyone (so far, at least!) agrees is a dumb concept.

Have tried to figure out some possible way this product would be useful; alas, cannot.

That said, suspect some folks (hope none from this Forum) will be sending their money to the seller. Oh, well...

Be safe.

Idiotic.

"Next question: How do I fire the handgun if I need to protect my family? I'll bet you already know the answer! Simply rack the slide, which ejects the unfired SAFETY BULLET, and your handgun is fully functional and ready to use."

Simply rack the slide! And hope your kid doesn't think to do it as well. I think a lot of kids know how to rack the slide from tv and movies.

the sad part is last night I went to walmart and found a secure pistol box for the EXACT same price, but the shipping was a heck of a lot cheaper

Anything that alters the function of a firearm-becomes a safety factor. Inserting something that you know has the potential to plug the gun up-is absurd.

Pretty worthless to me. The only concievable use I could see would be to immobilize and render harmless a gun that one intends to not use for some time. Fire the round then store the thing. Of course it would make more sense to just disassemble the gun, trigger lock it, or buy a safe. That devise has no business being in someone's defensive piece.

What the seller recommends is in direct violation of a Texas statute, since the gun with loaded magazine is still a "readily dischargeable firearm," "safety bullet" or not. Dumbasses. Did Michael Bloomberg invent this?

Wow, that is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. I won't even go into why expect to say:

GO BUY A GUN VAULT ONLINE FOR $80. I am not advertising for this company although I do use their products. There is a simple keypad where you can open the spring-loaded door in 2 seconds. You keep a loaded gun inside there. You can even screw it into the ground.

Keep this under your bed and all the other stuff in your big safe.

In my opinion, if a gun isn't in a safe or on your person, it shouldn't be sitting around anywhere a kid or an idiot adult can handle it, whether there is a lock or a fake bullet in it or not.

so if it does work how it says it does, then what is the point when I can leave the chamber empty? and if I leave the chamber empty then it takes just as long as retrieving a LOADED gun from a gun box? it still seems irresponcible to me and I think leaving a gun around a kid is a HORRID idea anyway

I agree, a stupid answer to a problem that shouldn't even be a problem. I grew up in a house full of guns (my mother was an NRA instructor back in the '40s and '50s), and my brothers and I were taught gun safety from our first memories - no accidents, no problems with guns. I must admit, though, i get a kick out of the inclusion of the .38/.357 offering - I guess I forgot about the slides on my Python and various S&W revolvers in those calibers. I can just guess how easy it will be to clear the "jam" created by the expanded plastic slug stuck in both the forcing cone and the end of the cylinder - way too much fun, but it will certainly take the weapon out of service.

The right solution? Teach your kids firearm safety 'til it is second nature, and properly store firearms. Those you keep for protection should be on your person.

I grew up in a house with loaded guns. Pap always said if he had time to load a gun he didn't need the gun. Parents need to be responsible and teach kids to be responsible and they won't be playing with loaded guns. Larry

everyone is 100% right on this one. Always a loading gun at home growing up, learned the right way and there not toys. started teaching my girls at age 5 and a few weeks ago started teaching my grandson age 9
