Is the 2020 ammo situation getting better or worse -- Your Observations

I set up at a show this afternoon and walked by a couple of different vendor tables on my way home. Saw steel 7.62x39 at $1.25-1.50 per round. Hard to believe they will get it but.....

they are .. also $60 a box of 50 9mm

.. i heard NYC is paying almost $1 per rd .22lr

I finally got around to organizing my boxes of firearm related stuff after my move last year. I found more ammo than I thought I had, plus my stash of slugs for the shotgun, and my spare magazines and speedloaders. So 2020 is getting better for me.

For myself.....much better! I reorganized my reloading room (listed as a disaster area), found about 24 pounds of powder I'd forgotten that I had! :D Getting senile is awesome....Christmas can come any time of the year! ;) memtb

Don't you just love it when that happens? I was rearranging my loading area and discovered 5K LPP I didn't remember I had. I wish they were SPP, but now I've got some trading power. Got all excited last night when someone responded to my WTT ad on armslist and said he had 749 SPP to trade. Hey, I'll take them!

Both of the LGS's I frequent have been buying ammo from their distributors at retail just to have some to make available to customers who buy a gun . . .

Same here, I've never been a stocking ammo dealer but after Walmart quit selling handgun ammo I made sure to have a few boxes on hand in the common calibers. So now I'm buying at retail to have some available for new handgun buyers.

CCI Blazer 9mm FMJ has been selling for $230 per 500 on GunBroker in the last few days, down $100 or so in just the last week.
CCI Blazer 9mm Luger 115gr FMJ 500 rounds - Pistol Ammunition at GunBroker.com : 878442795

This is only one example, but it's probably representative of more auctions if I spent more time looking. Knowing how GunBroker works with the 1000's of guys just sitting watching auctions and swooping in on any good deals, I find it unlikely this auction went unnoticed. Point being, I'm hoping this means the great ammo panic of 2020 is ending.

We just drove from Southern Ohio to North Georgia, stopping at several gun shops on the way(including Buds Gun Shop). VERY limited ammo, hardly any 223, very little 9mm if any. The shop that had the most(still no 9mm) was Appalachian Gun in Jasper, GA. Had lots of bulk 223, 500rds for $325. I found some 30-30 at a pawn shop; NO store had ANY.

Since my post a week ago, the same CCI Blazer "training" ammo has sold for $359/500 and $199/250 for Buy-it-Now on Gunbroker. No telling how high it would have gone in an auction. So I guess that particular auction was a fluke. There's yet no sign of prices letting up. <sigh...>

The guy who said I ain't going to buy anymore rifles just bought a rifle.
LH Savage Axis 223.
So I'm on the prowl for 223.
Got 700 rounds headed this way, probably should buy more.

I still can't find my favorite fodder, CCI Blazers, but recently I was able to score a case of Aguila 40 grain copper wash bullets and two cases of Eley Action Plus. The Eley will be available again tomorrow and only cost a few dollars more than the Blazers or Aguila.

Yeah, it's going up and down like a yo-yo. :p You've got to watch it closely to score relative bargain ammo on GB. :)

It's always interesting when someone scores locally at a pre-COVID price or close, but those great scores are few and far between and often quantity limited to as little as 1 or 2 boxes. :o

I'm not seeing any lasting trends at this time.

Right now, I'd say things have gotten worse. Earlier, it seemed like you could maybe land a deal here and there, if you timed it just right. Now, there doesn't seem to be much of anything around.

I do not see any significant improvement until until the middle of next year.
Will get worse before it gets better.

Am considering removing a few of my guns out of the safe to make room for ammo, which will be harder to replace than the guns if stolen.

500 Rds 9/20/2020 10:18 PM $439

In my estimation, prices for 5.56 are between holding steady and getting a bit more expensive. Lots of auctions closing at above $400 for a 500 round case

Here's a list of my 9MM FMJ purchases of 50 round boxes (all online) over the past five months:

6/6/20
Speer Lawman 124gr $16
PMC Bronze 124gr $17
Winchester 147gr $17.50
Federal Syntec 150gr $17
6/7/20
Norma 115gr $13
Winchester 147gr $14
6/14/20
Sig Sauer 124gr $19
9/21/20
Sig Sauer 115gr $16
10/13/20
Federal AE 115gr $24
10/21/20
Federal AE 115gr $25

The lowest I have seen online recently was Norma 115gr for $26.
A big LGS near me is selling 115gr range ammo, probably reman cause it's in plain boxes of 50, for $50.
