Is the actual shooting, or the fondling and cleaning that’s more “enjoyable”?

This is close for me, but I actually love the cleaning, yes fondling, and general caring for my modest collection. Even a little more than the actual shooting. But then again, shooting leads to ....... cleaning and caring![emoji177]

As an example, my son is coming over tomorrow for some back yard pistol/revolver shooting and here I sit, preparing/caring for a few firearms in preparation. Watching some B-Ball.

I see a lot of comments about me/we needing to make sure to shoot all of those pristine 98%+ revolvers. I'll be totally honest, I have no problem just caring for a handful of my old revolvers.

Anyone else with me on this?

Not close at all. Shooting is more fun. I shoot a lot more than most. I'm currently at 1,157 rounds so far this year and this has been a slow year.

I clean because I have to. If I could farm that out, I would.

I'll take shooting any day.

My Smith & Wessons are something I have to have and to hold. " Do you take this revolver to be your revolver?" I DO. I take, I open, and I inspect frequently. I pain if one has a spec of resido within. But soft, What yonder light may break if I ignite a round in a safe direction? I have performed my task. Then I must purify the specimen, a true privilege.

I probably enjoy the shooting and follow cleaning/fondling equally.

Sometimes I get my little table out at my recliner and a gun and just tear it down, clean it and put it back together while watching a movie.

I will probably get flamed for saying so, but I pay my LGS to clean and maintain.
I try to get as much range time as possible, but that is difficult at times depending on my work schedule. I chose range time over cleaning. I suspect that will change if I ever retire. I would also love to learn the craft of reloading someday.

In order of 'enjoyment' on 1 to 10 scale

Cleaning = 9

Fondling = 10 (Includes just eyeing in admiration)

Shooting = 11

I used to spend time marveling at the 'lines' where my model 10 fit together. If they were any finer it would take magnetic particle detection to locate.

I definitely need to shoot mine more, when I can make the time. But I do enjoy looking at them and just feeling the action and enjoying the artistry. A post earlier tonight inspired me to bring out my 686's give them TLC. Yup, it's a sickness, and I am not seeking a cure. :)

I enjoy both, actually. My revolvers especially. This last time I was off from the rig I broke out all 6 of my model 27's and gave them another coat of ren wax after fondling them and killing bad guys on the tv with them first. I only brought 1 of them to the range my last 2 weeks off and only ran around 150-200 rounds through it, but I also brought my ATI 1911 to play with too and ran 200 rounds through it too.

But I just don't feel near the love for the bottom feeders as I do my revolvers.

I enjoy both. There is something special about "mastering" a revolver or auto-loader to get a tight grouping, (some days are better than others). And just as special and relaxing is holding that powder/carbon stained hunk of metal and bringing it back to a radiant life. All the while it knowing it is capable of so much more accurately then I am able to produce.

Well, shoot.

I like fond-ling mine from time to time.

Eventually all that fond-ling leads to excessive shooting, of course,
from time to time :rolleyes:

KalamazzoKid: you asked for it.

Really though, Once mine are nice and clean, all that's needed is a light brushing to remove any debris or lint. But, after they're nice and clean I do love looking at them, and fondling them. Sometimes I remind myself to slow down so I don't wear them out to soon!
