For me it is the CS9.I am a guy with small hands and I searched a long time to find a semi auto that is the right fit and the single stack CS9 won the contest.Smith hit a home run with the 3rd Generation pistols, but the profit margin is just too great with the polymer frames.I guess the song is right"It is all about the Benjamins"God Bless.....Mike
As many have already said the Browning Hi Power is the best fit for my hand. Followed closely by any Sig 2XX series, especially the single stack 220 & 225, and the S&W/Walther 99s. When the S&W 52 came out in the '60s all the local bullseye shooters were going for them but it never felt good in my hand. Instead I ended up with a rare bird a Colt Gold Cup .38 that actually functioned reliably!
The 39,39-2 was and still was the best SW ever made. The grip was a lot like the model 52 target pistol, fit me as well as a 1911....Great gun to bad they stopped making it. Just a little work on the action and to me it would be right up there with the 1911 and the HK P7, M8, love the BHP but hands are a little small for the factory grips but one heck of a pistol..
Right up near the top of this list has to be the Heckler and Koch single stack P7 series to include the the original P7s and the updated P7M8s. Also a close second to the P7 would be the SigSauer P6 (commercially marketed as the 225) as already noted by LoadedRound and mikeruns on page 6.
The HK and the Sig were designed (along with the Walter P5) for the German Federal Police trials way back when (early 80s?) and are among the best designed service pistols ever conceived.
I happen to like the feel of my 469, but I must confess I gripped a new Walther PK-380 and it really felt good! The grip of the 410 is comfortable to me as well. I've never really been a fan of the 1911 grip or the M9 for that matter. Just goes to show you, what feels good in the hand is the one that fits you.
While I own many handguns that feel great in my hand, there is just something about my 39-2 that is so right. They seem to have transfered the ergonomics to some limited extent to the 3rd Gen, but not anything near as good as the 39-2 feels in hand. For me the 39/39-2 is the all time classic Smith semi-auto.
