Is there no love for the 625 45acp?

Bought my 625-3 new and it is my favorite although I do not shoot much. Kept the original grips and did buy a Kramer FBI type holster that makes a nice package -- not for concealed of course. Made my own 185 grain Hornaday semi wadcutters w/Bullseye -- now I am wondering why I am here and not out at the FOP wasting a few of them.

I bought both my 625's used but this one is particularly smooth and stages perfectly. I don't know if there's been any work on it but wouldn't be surprised.

I've been curious about the JM version but never shot one.

The 4" JM has converted me to 4'' revolvers. Other than that it's just another new S&W that most people don't like because of MIM, cast parts and the trigger lock. S&W discontinued the model because of declining sales.

I might be selling mine in the not too distant future now that I have an early model 28. The JM's and PC models didn't hold their value very well 15 years after the initial offering. Still worth about what they were new or maybe a little less. The earlier 625 models have increased in value.

My Custom Apex Tactical Inc. S&W 625 JM .45 ACP is my pride and joy!!! I would not sell it for $5000. It is my bedside gun. Since I live in a seniors' apartment complex my first rounds are:
Corbon Glaser Silver .45 ACP +P
Bullet Wt.: 145gr Glaser Safety Slug Silver, Velocity: 1350fps, Energy: 587ftlbs, Test Barrel Length: 5.0 Inches ; followed by Federal 230 grain HST +P HPs, Muzzle Velocity 950 fps, Muzzle Energy 461 ft. lbs, barrel length not stated.

I LOVE my Custom Apex Tactical Inc. S&W 625 JM .45 ACP!

The REAL question of the day is, are these rounds loaded in a moon clip or not????

The 25 series has always occupied a strange niche in the Smith pantheon. It's not really a hunting gun, it's too bulky for concealed carry, it never had much of a following in law enforcement and even in the target game if someone was going to shoot 45 acp they almost always choose a 1911. The one area it seems to thrive, at least around here, is the revolver crowd in IDPA and IPSC. There's one 625 that has been owned by at least four people in my IDPA crew.

It has a loyal following. But its small, somewhat like the 10mm crowd. I'm not opposed to 45 acp revolvers, I have two 1917s, a Smith and a Colt. But when I'm revolver shopping a 625 isn't on my list.

I have always wanted one and like the fact that they can be had in 3, 4 and 5 inch barrels. A 4" version would be very hard to resist.

For those owners who have measured the cylinder throats, didn't S&W make those guns with tighter throat specifications than the Model 25-2 ?

That"s a fair assessment. My PC 625 was purchased pretty much for that reason. One of the local clubs has informal practical pistol matches and while there's no revolver class, shooting a revolver makes it more of a challenge. Shooting a 625 with moon clips and .45 ACP makes it competitive against the normal folks with semi auto pistols.

As someone born in 1988 I feel like I should own one. Also because I don't have a revolver chambered in autoloader calibers like 45 that are readily available compared to my beloved 357 magnum. This gun sounds awesome and seems to be well loved on this forum.

Okay, had to look that one up. Collection, assemblage, gathering, Got it.

…It's not really a hunting gun, it's too bulky for concealed carry, ...

Let's see, a 255 grain bullet at 900+ fps, not good for hunting! Not much will stop that. I can count maybe a dozen white tailed deer that had complete pass through from a variety of angles.

it never had much of a following in law enforcement ...

The 45 ACP revolver I built from a S&W Model 28-2, specifically for duty carry, shown with a 45 ACP Mountain Gun that would also work.

I used a S&W Model 25-2 in PPC competition until I got to Regionals. The vintage revolver I used had a 6 1/2" barrel, maximum was 6".

I have no experience with that form of competition.

On thing you forgot to mention, those of us who favor the ACP revolver are vociferous in it's defense and promotion!

I love 25/625's I want one but can't find one I can afford! I love the 2.5"-4" guns especially silly RB with gold bead front interchange sights.
