Is there such a thing as new gun smell?

My nose is not good enough but I would imagine that there is a new gun smell for certain guns. I'm not sure that mostly metal guns would have much if any smell. But a new rifle with a walnut stock and a fresh finish would have a smell, and new polymer guns should have a smell as some of the chemicals in the plastic dissipate.

I think there is. I always get it with new beretta 92s. In all honesty, I think it is the plastic grips. That or the factory lube/grease.

Just like a new car, all you are smelling is plastics, lubricants and glue.

Years ago, I noticed a new gun "smell". I can remember back in about 1955 I bought a new, in box, Mossberg 146B .22. It was disassembled, i.e. stock and barreled action, in a plain brown, cardboard box, covered with cosmoline and wrapped in that wonderful brown, oily, waxed paper that you don't see anymore.

Yes, it had a new gun smell!

I have only bought one gun than was brand new, my Glock 27... and that smelled like the grease Glock uses in their new guns.
