Is this a common defect

I have been looking at a lot of Model 29s and have noticed a defect on several above the S&W logo on the R side of the frame around the same height of the hammer tab. I have attached a pic to illustrate. Thanks

Me either.....please be more specific. Are you talking about the circular line where the side-plate meets the frame?

There is a semi circular line that extends from approx 1/2 in below the sight screw and level with the hole in the hammer on the photo that extends down from left to right. Sorry if my description is a bit vague as my knowledge of all the proper nomenclature is limited.

I think you are referring to the junction of the side plate and the frame. Being two separate pieces, there is a visible line where they butt up against each other. Some fit tighter than others, especially ones that have never been taken off. This is not a defect.

If you are referring to this ( Note the arrow) that is where the sideplate
meets the frame.

No defect there.

When I got my 625, I actually called the gun shop I bought it from to ask them what to do about that crack - thinking it was a defect (cracked frame). They described the "crack" and declared it was the seam between the frame and the side plate. Glade to know I'm not the only one who learned by asking.
