Is this a good deal

$599 is not bad if it's in good shape (with the box, even better). 4" guns have great balance. If it fills a niche for you, this is a pretty good deal. If you can live without it, try to bargain a bit.

Bobster, Welcome to the Forum! It sounds a little high to me, but I am not an expert. I got my 586 no dash in a trade. I have around $450 into it (2yrs ago) I bought a 686, 6" last year for $580. I love the hunt (and find) for a specific gun. Bob

Some few of the M686's came in a blackened matte finish...you sure this isn't one? Also, prices a year ago are running nowhere near what the GB sale prices are today. I say if it fills a niche for you and is in really good condition, grab it.

I picked up a 4" 586 last weekend in Houston for $500.00. I'd negotiate a little bit. The worst they can say no, "I'm firm."

Thanks guys. I think I will go get it this morning. It is not a 686. And I will try to get the price down or maybe throw a holster in It does not have the box or paperwork that came with it.

While that's not a smoking deal now, you may be kicking yourself in a few years when you aren't able to find anything similar for less than $700+ Around here $599 for any .357 S&W is a fairly good deal. The only ones I've seen at or below that price have lasted less than a day or have mechanical problems. Seems people in OR like .357s

I will weigh in and say that if you have the opportunity to get it, do so.... Haggle a little, but in the end, get it. Not many of them seem to be for sale in the condition you note. I haven't seen one for a number of years. I should have bought one when they were more readily available, at least around my area as I will not buy from Gunbroker....prices too high and not able to see gun before purchase. Hope my opinion is useful.

Bring cash money.....sometimes the sight of cold hard cash...not plastic that will cost the seller money, will help get that price down.
Gary

Buy it. Don't fiddle around weighing whether or not it might possibly be priced $50 to high. In the condition you describe, buy it. Down the road neither you nor anyone else will care if it was at the time of purchase underpriced... or overpriced. Having the gun in your hand, being able to enjoy owning and shooting the revolver, that will be all that will matter. Down the road, a bit of money one way or the other will be meaningless, perhaps a tank of gas of a dinner.

I got it. $599 out the door. Ser# BDN02XX Model 586-3 Round Butt in Matte Black with black rubber grips. I had some original wood grips from a Model 19 I had years ago and the fit perfect. If I can figure out how to post pics I will post with rubber and wood grips. I just want to go shoot it.

The black stainless finish is a nice plus for that revolver. I had a similar one with a 6" barrel. Very handsome shooter.

I would like to see that in a set of Ahrends tactical round butt finger groove stocks. I am not a fan of the full lug Smith's but that looks nice. I often wonder if they went to a full lug as a bit of a stick in the eye to Colt for their Snake Series guns.

There were some matte finishes and yours looks great...not surprised you like the way is shoots. I'm a 586 fan so of course kudos from me!:) I have wood for mine but I like the Hogue grips for shooting as well. Congrats and enjoy!
