Greetings all,

I recently acquired this piece of history. Looking to gain more information on exactly what it is. It's .32 cal rim fire and the serial # is 64xxx. Based upon what I've read here I believe it is a Model 1 1/2 but not sure.

The pivot seems nice and tight. The serial number stamped inside the rosewood grip matches the one on the butt of the gun. A bit of rust but not too bad for it's age I guess.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, it is a Model 1 1/2 second issue or new model. The "old" or first model has a square butt and an octagonal barrel. These are the same changes that occurred between the Model 1 second issue and the Model 1 third issue except that they were .22 caliber.

IIRC the 1 1/2 first issue also has the cylinder stop at the bottom of the frame whereas the second issue or new model has the cylinder stop at the top of the frame.

Hope that helps.

The condition appears to be in the "Excellent" category from what I see. When you consider that this gun is 144 years old, (est ship at 1872), it was well taken care of. The top pivot pin appears unmolested, which is the downfall of most of these guns. If the bore and chambers are nice and clean you have a real winner. A light polishing with flitz then a coating of Renaissance Wax will make it outstanding.

Thanks merl67. Since I polished this gun I have to admit I can't keep my eyes off of it.

I have to also thank H Richard for the tip on polishing it with Flitz as well as thanking JSR III for the info on the gun.

All the best to you gentlemen and Happy Healthy New Year to you and yours.
