You know, besides a pair of aviator sunglasses and a Crown Vic?

Mod 10-5 - D 230xxx, 1970 (remember this one Mike?) and a few things that go with it.

I wonder why police don't carry saps, PR-24's or even a big flashlight anymore?

A nice russet colored leather ammo pouch to match the holster.

Here you go . . . I've had this one for about 30 years. Its still in great shape.

NYPD called it a memo book for patrol cops and the Sgt would scratch your book usually twice a shift. Checking for cooping prone locations, or unauthorized restaurants. HAHA
I actually once got charges and specs for an incident where the book was scratched. But, that's a life time ago

I would personally go for a bigger stick. If a hammer is the only tool you have, not everthing can be fixed with a a hammer. If a gun is the only tool you have .....

Nice photo, thanks, it does bring back a few memories. I remember the Nyclad ammo, everyone I knew used S&W cuffs. A flat Sap is much easier to carry in the back pocket. Some one asked why they don't carry Saps anymore, video cameras is why. Littly Johnny just robbed and shot 3 people, don't use a Sap on him or he will be the hero if captured on video. Criminals used to recognize 2 things very quickly, a Sap and an N Frame Smith which they equated with LARGE bullets.

Nice set up. That spring loaded lie detector reminded me of my early days. We referred to that one as a black jack and the flat version as a slap jack. Seemed it was always coming out of my pocket and lodging in the car seat. Great looking model 10.

Money grubbing weasals and liberal pukes who have worked hard at convincing people that the guy that got tuned up didn't deserve it because "he was turning his life around".

Very nice collection.

The politicans tie our hands more and more every year and make the job harder then they ask why is crime up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we called the flat sap a slapjack too. Slapjacks/blackjacks were disallowed for duty carry sometime in the 1980's (supposedly un-P.C.), might injure some dirtbag (poor baby). Large flashlights, especially the old Kel-Lite were heavy and were quite often employed as an emergency self defense weapon as they were often already in the hand when it hit the fan. Here again, PC (not probable cause) and the introduction of video cameras as already mentioned, began to favor the poor underprivileged criminal. The PR-24 is a very effective impact weapon with proper training, but is somewhat unwieldy to carry on the belt and as a result is often found back in the patrol car when needed most. Another factor is training cost. Officers must re-certify annually with it. As a result many agencies, mine included, adopted the steel expandable baton (A.S.P. Tactical Baton). It also is very effective, compact in belt carrier so more likely to be at hand when needed. Another plus is that it only requires a one-time certification so saves funds for other training. I was A.S.P. instructor at my department and although not legally required we conducted a brief refresher during semi-annual training days to enhance proficiency.

jmark1651, just noticed you are with HPD, I assume still serving. I am down on the Gulf Coast. Was Patrol SGT/Range Officer/Armorer. Hung it up in 2002. Attended some training sessions at HPD Acadamy, fine facility.
