Issue with new M&P 45c (frame not straight)

The widening "gap" between the frame's dustcover and the bottom of the slide isn't uncommon, and S&W has said it's not an issue. My M&P 45 FS has it ('08 production) ... but if I push down on the top of the slide, pushing against the "lift" of the recoil spring and its mounting within the frame, the gap goes away (until you lift pressure off the slide).

The consistency of the slide/barrel returning to battery controls accuracy, and this isn't something bothered by cosmetic zytel issues of the dustcover and how it's positioned under the front of the slide.

This sounds like the Glock owners who complain about what they've decided to label the "Pignose problem", referring to how some dustcovers will "lift" & "curl" at the front, sometimes to the point of touching the slide and rubbing against it. No functioning issues occur, and Glock has told armorers it's just a mold/cooling issue that occurs during frame production. Naturally, folks over on the Glock forums are firing up heat guns and hair dryers and "fixing it".

Shoot the M&P's. Attach and set the lasers (if you use them) for POA/POI consistency.

Life goes on ...

If you want machined precision and precise fit for the sake of appearance, buy steel or aluminum frames.

Common problem with fantastic plastic pistols . The technical name for the phenomena is "glock pignose".

As the name suggest this is a extremely common issue with Glocks. What I have heard it is caused by the frames being removed from the mold's while there still warm.

As far as using heat to bend the frame into position. I have heard mixed reviews. Most people say its a temp fix at best.

I have to agree most heat sources you could safely subject the frame to will not come close to being as hot as the frame gets when the gun is used.

If you take the slide off and put a straight edge like a steel ruler on the top of the frame is it straight or bowed? I wonder if the frame did warp a tiny bit.

My 6 year old M&P 40 is like this. It also just came back from Smith looking at the sear housing (abnormal wear). No issues or comments from them on the frame. New sear and updated mag release.

went to pick up mu new 45C from my FFL and found my pistol has the same problem. I refused to transfer to me until I hear back from S&W. However, after reading this thread it appears it is normal. I don't like the way it looks.

Had this MP45 for years and years. Gazillion rounds..no problems with that little bent edge
