towards the end (less than 10 primers)

the primer pickup is getting hung up by the primer and not letting it feed onto the primer ram.

I replaced the plastic tip on the primer mag and still the same thing.

I did notice every now and then (only with LP) I have to raise the shell plate to get the plate to rotate.

I am thinking my primer ram is the issue but I took apart, clean and re installed and still having the same issues.

I have loaded 38 and Nina all year and decided to end the season with 45 acp and this is my first pulls with 45 acp in over a year.

maybe the parts are worn...1981 press and components.

anyone run into the same issues. I will likely call Dillon tomorrow.

TIA

I ran into a similar issue last year. I called Dillon and they sent me a steel bearing plate that sits below the primer bar. They also suggested I thoroughly clean the primer mechanism. All of this improved but did not eliminate the issue. I finally figured out that there was a slight misalignment at work. I solved it by not tightening the two screws that hold the primer feed body until you align it by cycling the handle to the point where the ram is through the shell plate. You can test this by trying to pull the primer slide back after the main shaft is at it's highest point. If you can move the slide, it is not aligned properly. Another suggestion is to slightly bend the operating rod in order to increase the tension.

I hope that helps,

Frank

I did not get to call.

I cleaned it and I do have the bearing plate under need the slider. I do install and tighten in the method you describe.

it appears the primer is sitting too low and the edge of the primer keeps the spring loaded primer rammer (or whatever u call it) from getting underneath the primer.

I changed the plastic tip on the primer magazine.

And it only happens when the tube is about empty (around 10 primers or less)

I am wondering if there is debris where the spring loaded primer rammer is keep it from bottoming out where its running a little high. I will check that.

thanks for the info

I is baffled.

That is a good place to look. I have found a lot of grit from de-capping does fall in that area.

Thanks Frank....I think this was the culprit.

I took out the primer tube and slide and took visual note of the primer cup in relation to the plastic tip of the primer magazine and the spring loaded white plastic tip in the tube assembly.

I took the primer feed slide apart and notice debris under the primer punch.

I cleaned up, reinstalled and immediately noticed the primer cup was lower and level with the white plastic tip. therefore my primer punch was not fully seated causing the hiccups. whewwww, I can loaded on Sunday.

also, since I had not used the assembly for over a year, I was having primer bar hangun ups with VV N310 powder. the powder bar would not return to battery (hehehe!)

I took the powder assembly apart and aparently from years of use (1981) the two metals rubbing together, gouged both metals and developed a high spot. stone to the rescue and the smoothness returned.

Just call Dillon. They have excellent customer servie and will back their products. More than once, they have sent me new parts and then walked me through installing them
