I was sitting at a long stoplight yesterday, minding my own business and patiently
waiting for it to turn green, even though there was no on-coming traffic.

A carload of anti-gun, young, liberals, shouting "anti carry" slogans,
with pictures of melted down guns taped on the trunk of their car, and
a "Repeal the Second Amendment" sign spray painted on the side, was stopped next to me.

Suddenly they yelled, "All Guns Are Evil" and took off before the light changed.

Out of nowhere an 18-wheeler came speeding through the intersection and ran
directly over their car, crushing it completely and seriously injuring everyone in it.

For several minutes I sat in my car thinking to myself, "Man....that could have been me!"

So today, bright and early, I went out and got a job as a truck driver.

True story, It Was Me in 1977

In residential, city neighborhood our side of road is two lane, stopped at a red light. I'm 30 at the time, in college (poor), and in the right lane. In left lane is car full of high school kids (rich). Unkind things are said about my old Chevy and me. I tap my gas pedal, hit the brake, and the front fender lurches forward 2 inches.

The passenger next to me, in the great big Buick, screams, "GO!" to his buddy the driver. The kid stomps on his gas pedal, the traffic light is RED, and the Buick gets t-boned by a little old lady in her Cadillac who couldn't stop in time. Traffic light turns GREEN, I smile, wave, and drive on through the intersection. I don't think Daddy will be happy. The driver's explanation must have been a good one.

Street-racing chucklehead out-of-towners to a half-block short of the city speed traps was a well-developed pastime when I was a kid in Omaha.
