I had this procedure done to my right carotid artery five years ago and it worked like a charm. They opened up that artery put me on 75 mg a day of Plavix (clopidogrel) and each of my check-ups since has shown no restenosis (narrowing).
You'll do just fine.
By the way, depending on the size and location of the blockage, there are two ways to do this procedure. One is to actually clamp off, open up, and scrape out the artery before sewing it back up. The other is to insert a balloon catheter with a stent and use the stent to open and keep the artery open. Mine was a stent, and I was able to watch the doc guide the catheter into place and insert the stent on a huge flat screen TV (live, magnified X-ray TV!!!). If they do the surgical version, you'll be under some very pleasant general anesthesia, so no worries in that department either.
